Need Advice for 30 Person T10,000

I have been hammering this out with limited success. I now come on bended knee to the collective wisdom of my fellow CTers

I searched like mad for this but the term "30" is too short to be allowed and nobody used "thirty". Hopefully this isn't covering old ground.

I need to assemble a new tournament set to cover a max of 30 people. I would like to start with a big and easy 10k. I got the blind structure from HomePokerTourney for T10000 with starting blinds of 100-200.

Just about any way I slice it I am looking at around 1000 chips to buy. Anyone have any ideas how I can save some money? Quality wise I would like to buy something no worse than NJ Desert Sands. I can get those in sets of 500 for .40 each if I buy new.

Any ideas on another structure that would require less chips for so many people? I don't want them having to make change all the time which is why I think I am going to need to buy at least 1000 chips. How about rebuys? What can I expect out of 30 people? Unlimited rebuys are allowed in the first 3 rounds at $20 each if you bust out. I am guessing on about 10-15 maybe.

This will be my first hosted event. I am really excited about it but I really want to get it right the first time.

Starting T10,000:
10x T100
8X T500
5x T1000

Color up the T100 at round 9 (1500-3000 blinds) for 60 more T500

Total chips needed with 15 T1000 rebuys would be 900 if my brain is working.
Any practical way to get this down to 800 chips without making it less fun?

Re: Need Advice for 30 Person T10,000

I semi-regularly host a 30 person T10,000 tourney. This is what I have:

1,000 Chip breakdown:

240 - T25
300 - T100
240 - T500
150 - T1000
70 - T5000

T10,000 (30 person tourney)

Starting stacks:

8 - T25
8 - T100
8 - T500
5 - T1000

BTW - I have used this set as a micro cash set as well

T25 = $0.25
T100 = $1.00
T500 = $5.00

Re: Need Advice for 30 Person T10,000

30 player T10k

Starting Stack
10 x T100 (need 300)
4 x T500 (need 180. 120 to start + 60 to color up T100s)
2 x T1000 (need 150. 60 to start + 90 to color up T500s)
1 x T5000 (need 30 to start)

660 chips.

Use 2 x T5000 for rebuys, need 60 more (90 total) if you account for 30 rebuys. 720 chips total.

Having said the above. I recommend 800 chips.
300 x T100
200 x T500
200 x T1000
100 x T5000

Re: Need Advice for 30 Person T10,000

Lots of ways to do it:

My T10K tourney uses larger stacks and T25 chips.

If you don't want the T25s,
Try T100 x 10, T500 x 6, T1000 x 6.

Get 400 x T100 chips, 250 x T500, 250 x T1000, and 100 x T5000
and you can host 40+ people.

Also, IMO I wouldn't worry about buying extra T500 or T1000 chips to color up.
Just buy T500's and T1000's from the player with the biggest stack at each table with the T5000 chips and use those to color up. This works and is more efficient with the chips and will save you time in the long run.

If you want to start with blinds of 25/50 do what Button Potato or Matthew have told you (I would use 8/8/6/6 instead of 8/8/8/5 - I find using the fewest possible 500s is best).
