1000 Chips for .25/.50 cash game, T2500/T5000 Tournaments

I play in a regular 10 person T5000 Tournament. I would like to start a monthly tournament that would bring in 20. We also like to start a Cash game for the people that get knocked out. This is maybe 5-6 people, but with the new tournament I'd like to think we could get a full table of 10.

After spending days with the chip breakdown calculator and came up with the following strategy.

For the 10 person T5000 Tournaments
Each Total with Color-ups
12 x 25 120
12 x 100 150
7 x 500 100
25 x 1000 - 5 re-buys (which we rarely need - everyone plays sooo tight. )

For the 20 person T5000 Tournaments
Each Total with Color-ups
8 x 25 160
8 x 100 200
8 x 500 200
25 x 1000 - 5 re-buys

So for the 585 chips of the 20 person tournament I can do both a larger number of chips 10 person, or a smaller number of chips 20 person. I know the number of chips for the 20 person tournament won't be ideal, but it would work and I need to make some compromises.

And now for those first people that get knocked out, they'll want to start a cash game. We mostly play .25/.50 and sometimes .50/1.

Buy-ins for $25 - $50
Each Total Chips
.25 x 12 120
1 x 12 120
5 x 2 20
or
5 x 7 120 for $50 buyins. (rarely played .50/1, might not have enough .25 for this?)

So that's another 360 chips needed according to the chip break down calculator. Cash value would be $750, which is plenty for the guys I play with. (no-one buys in more than 2-3 times.) If not, I could start using the 25.

For a grand total of 945 chips.

I have to stop at 1000 chips, so that's only 65 more to play with. I'm thinking either equal number of chips for backups or perhaps a few more .25 to bolster the cash game up a bit.

If you have any suggestions for improvement, or where to use the extra 65, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Or if you just want to say "looks good" I'd like to hear that as well.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would either get more T1000 chips for rebuys, or get more $1 chips to make it easier on your cash game players when they rebuy (for all $5 chips) and have to make change.

0.25/0.50 no limit or limit? seems pretty tight for a no limit game....

55 is correct.
Can I do anything with the 55 chips to loosen it up?

Re: 1000 Chips for .25/.50 cash game, T2500/T5000 Tournaments

i would get 2 separate sets, one for tournament, and one for cash.

at least 600 chips for the cash game.

120 x $0.25
240 x $1
200 x $5
40 x $25

and a 12-12-7 for $50 buy in.

i recently got a 1000 chip set for 0.25/0.50 NLHE games:

160 x $0.25
560 x $1
220 x $5
50 x $25
10 x $100

starting $50 buy in stacks are:
16 x $0.25
31 x $1
3 x $5
50 chips for $50 - lots of room to play with. $3950 worth of chips in the set.

Re: 1000 Chips for .25/.50 cash game, T2500/T5000 Tournaments

lokimon, would thing you could do is, where you have alotted (200) T100 chips, you could reduce that to (160). Use your T500s to color up your T25s as well. So if someone has (16) T25 chips at color up time, they give you those (16) T25 chips + one (1) T100 chip and you give them (1) T500 chip. This way you can avoid using some unnecessary chips.

Now you will have (95) extra chips to work with. Add those to your cash set to beef up the $1 chips. Maybe (80) more $1s and (15) more $5s.

Re: 1000 Chips for .25/.50 cash game, T2500/T5000 Tournaments

I'd love to have 2 sets, but right now 1000 chips is the max. (I already moved from 500 to 700 to 1000)

I have been basing the cash breakdowns based off of this thread.
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-...-games-ii.html
I guess I missed the part where he mentions having 60 $10 denominations, but that's way too much cash for the group I play with. We would never see $1350 on the table. I like the idea of more 1's and 5's instead.

I like the idea of using the 500's to possibly minimize the 100's I'd have to buy, but would this cause a shortage of 100's on the table? Let's say worst case there are still 16 players when the 25's get colored up, that would mean 10 each on average... I guess that's not so bad.

So breakdown currently looks like this.
0.25 120
1 200
5 135
25 160
100 200
500 160
1000 25

I'm ordering on Monday, so anymore thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: 1000 Chips for .25/.50 cash game, T2500/T5000 Tournaments

I have a set of mostly pharaoh's
200 -.25
250 - $1
150 -$5 (150 classic $5)
10 - $25 classic
10 $100 classic
(all the chips in the cash set are distinct from the tourney set which is all pharaoh)
mostly we play 1/2NL, i've never actually used the quarters yet so don't need more of them. Would you give more than 25 $1 chips to players? thats why i have 310 5's.
0.25/.50 i'd give
20 -.25
20 - $1
5 - $5
$50
1/2NL
$25 - $1
30 - $5
1 - $25
$200 (not everyone buys for the max)

Tourney (all pharaoh's, so no mixing of chips with cash set) this is the set i'm most interested in tweaking.
160-25
260-100
60-500
60-1000
10-5000
so you think what add 20 500's and 20 1000's? (i have 10 classic 500's and 1000's that i can use in case of running low)
I've been toying with the idea of a T10,000 with a one time 5000 chip add on at the break or use that as a rebuy earlier if u drop below 1000 chips, would require 10,000 more in chip value unless i used the classics, should i get more pharaoh's or just use the classics for the odd time i ran a game like that?

Re: 1000 Chips for .25/.50 cash game, T2500/T5000 Tournaments

that my thing too, often the cash game starts before the tourney ends so i like having a different chip set in play btw the two. I use pharaoh's for both but the cash set is .25,1,5 (pharaoh's) and some 5's, all 25's&100's are classics so there wouldn't be a chip slipping in here or there by "accident"

i agree a combo double duty set would be great but depends on the circumstances. My tourney set would do well as a .25/.50 game at a single table after a tourney for example using the 25's are quarters 100's as dollars etc but we normally play 1/2NL and it starts while the tourney is winding down so I need 2 seperate sets (and like having 2 lol)
