Chips: 530 | | | Quarters needed in .50/1 NL? My friend is having a 2-table .50/1 NL cash game, and I've finally talked him into upgrading his dice chips to some Dunes Commemoratives. The players LOVE having a lot of chips in front of them, and we were looking at options for 600, and 1000 chip sets, fit for 18 people. This particular game is $100 min, $200 max cap buy-in, so it's set up to have deep stacks.
The Dunes set has 25c chips, and 50c chips, and I really like the looks of both. My question is, do you need the 25c chip in this situation? As I said, these guys love having big stacks of chips in front of them, (and I love making oddball bets..) - but is it a waste? It'd also be nice to have the flexibility to play a .25/.50 if people decide to play lower, these are mostly younger guys playing. Is it possible in a 600 chip set to have quarters, or will he have to spring for the 1000 to be able to have them without sacrificing other higher value chips?
Thanks for your opinions and advice! |

Tell your buddy to step up to the 1000 and add some quarters in there! |

but with new players more chips = slower bets (due to counting) = bad
but I'd choose more chips either way.

It's true that you may have to unevenly divide a pot,but the extra chip just goies to the player closest to the button, anyway.

I'd get 1000
300 x .25
400 x $1
150 x $5
100 x $25
50 x $100
start folks off with
$4 in quarters (16)
$16 in dollars (16)
$30 in fives (6)
$50 in twenty fives (2)
for a hundred, add four more $25's or $100 for $200 buy-in
this setup would work for limit or no-limit |

50 x $100 | I agree about getting 1000 chips, however having 30% of your chipset invested in a chip that is only worth HALF the small blind in a NL cash game seems like a big waste to me. I'd recommend sticking with the $.50 chips and not giving out more than 10 of them in the starting stacks. This will be MORE than enough considering the $.50 chips will only really come into play when putting in the small blind. So, running two tables you shouldn't need any more than 200 $.50 chips...you could probably get away with 150 $.50 chips.
I think you'll want a lot more $5 chips for this game, especially since it's 200-max buy-in. |

In a NL game with $1/2 blinds the $5 would be the work horse chip, so 50c/$1 game it would depend how loose everyone is, but a more even ratio of $1s & $5s would be needed I think, and the remainder in $25s and $100s.
Of course, if you are defintely going to use the chipset for differing games and limits, it's a whole different story... |

Chips: 220 | | | Re: Quarters needed in .50/1 NL? I would focus on the $1 and $5 chips. The $0.50 chips are for the small blind only and should be kept to a minimum IMO.
I recommend 1000 chips:
Denom .. Per Player ..Value .... Buy
$0,50 ..... 4 ....... $2,00 ...... 75
$1,00 ..... 18 ..... $18,00 ..... 325
$5,00 ..... 16 ..... $80,00 ..... 450
$25,00 .... 4 ...... $100,00 ... 125
$100,00 ... 0 ...................... 25
Total ...... 42 ...... $200,00 ... 1000
For the first rebuys hand out 20-stacks of $5's util you run out. Then use the $25's and $100's | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
