T10000 break-down help!!

I am looking to create a 500 chip set for a T10,000 tournament.

I had tried

20 - green $25
15 - black $100
6 - purple $500
5 - Yellow $1000
(had a handful of $5000 chips for color up)

with a blind schedule something like (not exactly sure ATM) ...
25 / 50
50 / 100
100 / 200
200 / 400
300 / 600
400 / 800
500 / 1000
600 / 1200
800 / 1600
1000 / 2000
2000 / 4000 ... etc

PROBLEMS:
Too many green for too few levels ...

Can't reasonably color up $25 chips to $5000 chips. resulted in a lot of buying chips around and ultimately more time, than desired, spent trying to color up and race green and black chips off the table. My monthly Friday night game usually squeezes in 3-4 games in a night and this time we only got in 2.

Also side/main pots became a little difficult to calculate (although that may just be because we are no good at the NEW "New" math) LOL

What I need ..
A single and easy color-up time-out and chips that aren't so complicated to split out into multiple pots. I definitely think that this may mean the end of the $25 chip and moving the blind schedule to start at 100/200.

I saw this blind schedule and starting chipstack on HPT with a single color-up after level 7. I thought it looked pretty good. Any thoughts?

Schedule
1. 100 200
2. 200 400
3. 300 600
4. 400 800
5. 500 1000
6. 600 1200
7. 800 1600
8. 1000 2000
9. 1500 3000
10. 2000 4000
11. 3000 6000
12. 4000 8000
13. 5000 10000
14. 6000 12000
15. 8000 16000

Starting stack
20 - $100 black
8 - $500 purple
4 - $1000 yellow

What would I need to provide for color-ups?

I wonder if I could drop the 500's in the starting stack to
20 - $100 black
6 - $500 purple
5 - $1000 yellow

That would give me a 350 chip set (for 10 people) ... with 40 additional chips distributed (??) for color up.

HELP!!! So Confusing!! I hate this part ... it's like rocket science!! All I know how to do is draw pictures!!

Re: T10000 break-down help!!

I recommend you to play T25 since most tourney and casino have the same setup.

I do play starting stack T100 it is easy and less color up in the first 4-5 level.

If you chose to T25 here is what I played.

T5000 (100xBB) each level 15-30min. I play 20min for each level.

Starting stack 8 8 8 or 8 8 6 1 Starting stack T10K 8 8 8 4

25 / 50
50 / 100
75 / 150
Break color up T25
100 / 200
200 / 400
300 / 600
Break
400 / 800
500 / 1000
800 / 1600
Break color up T100
1000 / 2000
1500 / 3000
2000 / 4000

To answer your question:

I break level into 3 is because each level is 20 x 3 = 1hour.

Starting Stack 10 T100 10 T500 4 T1K ( 10 10 4 ) or ( 10 8 5)

Starting stack
10- $100 black
8 - $500 purple
5 - $1000 yellow

T100 - 100 (150 for re-buy)
T500 - 100 (130 for re-buy)
T1K - 100
T5K - 20

Total chips 400
Schedule
1. 100 200
2. 200 400
3. 300 600

4. 400 800
5. 500 1000
6. 600 1200

7. 800 1600
8. 1000 2000 Color up the T100
9. 1500 3000

10. 2000 4000
11. 3000 6000
12. 4000 8000

13. 5000 10000
14. 6000 12000
15. 8000 16000

Re: T10000 break-down help!!

I've heard some good feedback on this breakdown for a T20,000 with the levels below. For a T10,000 you could just drop the 2x5000 chips:

12 - T25 (actually mentions cutting this to 8 & using 13xT100)
12 - T100
7 - T500
5 - T1000
2 - T5000

420 chips for up to 10 people...Add on a 20-30 T5000's and some extras of each denom and you've got your 500!

LEVELS: 20 Minutes Each
Level 1: 50/100

Level 2: 100/200
Level 3: 150/300

Race off T25s

Level 4: 200/400
Level 5: 300/600
Level 6: 400/800

Break

Level 7: 500/1000
Level 8: 600/1200
Level 9: 800/1600

Race off T100s

Level 10: 1000/2000
Level 11: 1500/3000
Level 12: 2000/4000

Race off T500s

Level 13: 3000/4000
Level 14: 4000/8000
Level 15: 5000/10000

We finished last night at the start of Level 12 (around four hours, including time taken for color ups and breaks).

This information is from MetalSlug3's post which is linked below.
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/tourna...8-players.html

Also, don't know if you have it, but here is a link to CaptLego's ChipTalk.net Breakdown Calculator that I use a lot:

Hope this helps!

Re: T10000 break-down help!!

You could always add antes to keep the T25 chips on the table longer.

Re: T10000 break-down help!!

Definitely get rid of the $25s. We play a 15k tourney, the break down is:

10x 100
6x 500
6x 1000
1x 5000

Blinds of course, start out 100/200. I think it works out well. Using a $25 chip just causes too many problems.

Re: T10000 break-down help!!

Hi Gary!

Jdunford is usually very helpful with posts like this. He has taught me the greatness of the 2-3-4-6 / 2-3-5-7 blind progression. These numbers represent the count of chips for each small blind. All you have to do is use 2-3-4-6 if the next chip is 4x the current level and 2-3-5-7 in the next chip is 5x the current level (treat the T1000 as T2000 when figuring blinds).

Here is an example;
50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300

200-400
300-600
500-1000
700-1500

1000-2000
1500-3000
2000-4000
3000-6000

4000-8000
6000-12000
10000-20000
14000-30000

At the end of each set, color up and break. Usually the tourney will end at the level before the small blind = starting stack.

As for starting stacks....
12 - 12 - 7 - 5 seems to be pretty popular (three stacks of twelve).
8 - 8 - 6 - 6 is good if you want to keep the total chips to a minimum (that goes against the ChipTalk ethic, I know).
I have seen some suggest going minimalist on the T25 and T500 with;
8 - 13 - 5 - 6

As for color ups it depends on how much table change you want to do. You can use T500 to color up the T25 (making change with the chip leaders) and T1000 to color up the T100 as well. I would suggest just rounding up your chip set with a few extras (I like even stacks) and use this for color ups.

You could do the 8 - 8 - 6 - 6 with as few as ;
80 x T25
80 x T100
60 X T500
80 x T1000
Total 300 chips... This doesn't allow for easy color up (a lot of table change).

If you figure the T100 and T1000 will be the 'workhorse' chips you should consider the 8 - 13 - 5 - 6 starting stacks.
80 x T25
140 x T100
60 x T500
100 x T1000
20 x Whatever (NCV, T5000, Re-Buy, etc).
Total 400 chips

I wouldn't worry about getting T5000 unless you plan on doing re-buys.

My 2c
Shane

Re: T10000 break-down help!!

T=10000 Here's what I do

12/12/9/4 X 10 people plus color ups =

25 - 120
100 - 150
500 - 120
1000- 40............................ total = 430 chips with out coloring up the 500's

Re: T10000 break-down help!!

That one from HPT with starting blinds at 100/200 in your post seems interesting. I definitely like the idea of less color-ups and may have to try that sometime.

Here's what I have. Case is one of the Elite 550's from Gameland. There's a review of the 700 case here somewhere. I think both of these are getting hard to find now, though.

Starting stack T10,000 up to 12 players (future expansion likely)
12 - T25 - 144 total
12 - T100 - 154 total - added 10 to assist color-up
5 - T500 - 70 total - added 10 to assist color-up
6 - T1000 - 102 total - added 30 to assist color-up and first few rebuys
--T5000 - 50 total - for rebuys and color-ups if needed.

520 total chips.

I do color-ups from the big stack at the table and ignore the races. When coloring up to T100, 2-4 T25 chips gets you 1 T100. Going to T500, you need at least 3 T100 chips. It's not exactly correct, but it's just a home game here . I'll just "buy" a bunch of chips from the big stack and use those to color-up the others, then I color up the big stack.

Here's my blinds schedule. I used to do the break every hour thing, but they come up too quickly and the smokers just go when they want anyway, so... I've never gotten passed level 12, but I worked it out just in case.

20 minute levels
1 25 50
2 50 100
3 75 150
4 100 200
5 150 300
Break - Color-Up
6 200 400
7 300 600
8 400 800
9 600 1200
10 800 1600
Break - Color-Up
11 1000 2000
12 1500 3000
13 2000 4000
14 2500 5000
Break - Color-Up
15 3000 6000
16 4000 8000
17 5000 10,000

Color-ups really aren't usually too bad for me. Going to T100 there's still a lot of people, but by the time we go to T500 it's pretty shorthanded and doesn't take more than a couple minutes. I also try to color-up as BIG as I can. If someone has 600 in T25 chips, I'll give them one T500 and one T100.

Good luck!

Re: T10000 break-down help!!

EDIT: Mine and Mike33's are pretty similar - I think I just have a 250/500 and he doesn't?

I glanced at the posts before, but didn't read them thoroughly - so I apologise if this has been covered.

I think in a tournament - the early levels are pretty important and I try to keep them pretty small

My structure is:

25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
250/500
300/600
400/800
500/1000
600/1200
800/1600
1000/2000
1500/3000
2000/4000
2500/5000
(Then like previous levels just with added 0)

I like to think that's pretty slow early on and I think most players enjoy it.

BTW - I'm definately interested by antes and it's something I want to try next tournament (Just to keep huge stacks on the table) I looked at the WSOP blinds and it looks really good (Although I would add a 25/50 level)

I agree with small early levels...it lets you play deep stack poker for awhile.

If you try antes, just be prepared for mass confusion and for everyone to hate it. Antes didn't go over so well for me and they've since been permanently killed at my games . Hopefully, you'll have better luck than I did.
