.25/.50 NL Cash Set

Alright folks, after seeing pictures of the Samurai Palace chips recently, I am contemplating yet another .25/.50 NL set. I already have a set of MGM Detroit chips, but it is hard to buy chips larger than $1. I have two breakdowns in mind, but cannot decide on one or the other.

Option A (obtained from the great breakdown specialist Matthew)
120 x $0.25
120 x $1
100 x $5
60 x $20 (will be the awesome NCV mint and chocolate quarter-pie chip)
Starting Stack: 12 x $0.25, 12 x $1, 1 x $5 for $20; Total Bank: $1850

Option B
120 x $0.25
170 x $1
60 x $5
50 x $20 (again, the NCV chip)
Starting Stack: 12 x $0.25, 17 x $1; Total Bank: $1500
-I originally had 70 x $5 and 40 x $20, but i love that NCV chip too much.

I was thinking Option A will give me the most bang for my buck as its total bank is astronomical for a .25/.50 game. It's probably enough to play a .50/.1 game if i stretched it. Also, with the NCV chip, i can play .10/.25 by handing out 5 NCVs per player with the value of a dime each. Is 120 $1s on the table enough? I do like big stacks, but i do love a big bank. Let me know what you guys think!

Re: .25/.50 NL Cash Set

See here:
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/chip-b...breakdown.html

In short, I started off with a little 300-chip set not unlike option (a):

120 x 25¢
120 x $1
60 x $5

At that time, the typical buy-in was $20. Then we nearly ran out of $5s one time, and people started buying in for $40.

I now have:

120 x 25¢
200 x $1
100 x $5
120 x NCV - only because we sometimes use them as antes for stud games (5¢ or 10¢), and sometimes as $20.

The $1 is by far the workhorse chip, so it's nice to have an abundance of them in play.

Old:

(imagine 2 more rows like those, + 2 rows of just $5s)

New:

Re: .25/.50 NL Cash Set

Thanks for the advice Jeff.

I absolutely love that thread you mentioned and find myself going there very often. Those last two pictures are the very reason I want to get another .25/.50 cash set, despite the fact that I already have my MGM Detroit set. If you decide to get rid of your set for some reason in the near future, please contact me immediately!

I doubt i'll ever need all that bank in Option A, but I always like to have too much than too little.

Re: .25/.50 NL Cash Set

For 400 chips, I like option B better. It gives you more $1 in play which, as jdunford said, is the workhorse in 25/50cent games. $1500 is more than enough to start out with. Plus, starting out with just 400 chips, you'll be able to gauge where you need more if/when.....when you decide to get more

Good Luck!

Get 50-100 more 1's if you can for Option A.

Re: .25/.50 NL Cash Set

For Option B, do you recommend the breakdown with more $5s or the one with more $20s?

Re: .25/.50 NL Cash Set

i bought a Zombie Poker Tour set recently specifically for a .25/.50 NL cash game....

first i wanted to mention....with your starting stacks, $20 is only 40xBB
i based my set on a realistic buy-in: $50 - 100xBB, which is the same as the local casinos. what is your max buy-in at your game, Roc? or is it not capped?

my starting stacks are:
16 x .25
31 x 1
3 x 5

so my set of 1000 is:
160 x .25
560 x 1
220 x 5
50 x 25
10 x 100 (just in case i need it)

$3950 total, just fine for 10 maniac players like my friends.

Re: .25/.50 NL Cash Set

for a 500 or 510 chip set i'd do:

120 x .25
260 x 1
70 x 5
50 x 20(i prefer 25, but if that's what you like...)
10 x 100 (optional 10 extra chips....just in case)

510 chips totalling $2640.

$50 starting stacks:
12x .25
22 x 1
5 x 5

Thats on par with about a bazillion home games out there at .25/.50. Its just natural for many to pull out $20 to play. Not natural for me but experience says this...weekly playing for 12 years and the ole' pull out $20 seems universal for many at this level.
