1/2 nl holdem 6 players

What are the suggestions for a $1/$2 NL & Limit game, with 6 players max for a 300 chip set?

Thanks

Re: 1/2 nl holdem 6 players

What I would probably do is something along the lines of this:

90 x $1
130 x $5
70 x $25
10 x $100

This gives you a total bank value of around $3500. If you only do $100 max buy in, you could probably eliminate the $100s and get more $5s. But if you choose to have a deeper buy in ($300 or so) then I would probably get the $100s.

Your starting stack can be somewhere around:
15 x $1 (x 6 = 90)
12 x $5 (x 6 = 60 )
how ever many $25s to hit your max buyin
(1 for $100, 5 for $200, 9 for $300)

This way you start with a decent # of $1s in play, and your first couple rebuys can be in $5s and $25s, and the rest of the rebuys in $25s and $100s.

Re: 1/2 nl holdem 6 players

Thanks for the reply. I was way off and was thinking:

200 x $1
60 x $5
40 x $25

That would let me start 6 players with $100 buy-ins at:

25 x $1
5 x $5
2 x $25

and have the following left for re-buys:

50 x $1 ($50)
30 x $5 ($150)
28 x $25 ($700)

Too many $1 ???

I personally think that is too many $1s, but its really up to you. Realistically, how much do you use $1s in a 1/2 NL game? other than the blinds, I'd wager that most of your bets are over $5 or $10... which I'd rather have my players use 2 $5s instead of 10 $1s.

Do you buyin for $100? $300? If you buy in for $100, you only have 9 buyins... and obviously only 3 buyins if you start with $300.

It really depends on how many extra buyins you want to have and how much you start with. I'd personally prefer to trade off the amount of $1s for a larger total value of my bank.

But, again.... its really up to you. Only you know the makeup of your game.

Edit: I just noticed.... welcome! You have found a fantastic board full of great info. However, one warning: Check your wallet at the door, if you get involved here you won't be needing it anymore

Hey thanks for the welcome. Joined back in 2005, been a longtime lurker. I thought about doing structure betting, like $1-$5 on pre-flop and flop, and $1-$10 on turn and river. Perhaps I'll get a few more $5's to have the flexibility.

Thanks

Re: 1/2 nl holdem 6 players

Yeah, a lot of it depends on your game. If most raises are to $5 or increments of $5, obviously it'll be in your best interest to load up on $5s and keep the $1s to a minimum. If there are a lot of limpers and a min. raisers, more $1s might come in handy.

I'd give out 10 or 15 $1s and the rest in $5s. Make sure to have some $20s or $25s for re-buys (and possibly even some $100s on hand just in case).

You did say NL right? If it's limit, then get lots of $1s (and I'm not sure what "structure betting" means, but it sounds like some limits in early betting rounds).

But for NL, the reco above is about right. Say 15 x $1 (or 20 if you want more chips hanging around) and then $5s up to $200 buy-in. For bigger buy-in or rebuys, go with some $20s/25s, and/or you could put 1 x $25 in the $200 starting stack.

Re: 1/2 nl holdem 6 players

get rid of the $25 chips. get more $100 and more $5.

...you always need to have "enough" $1 chips, but style of play would dictate how much enough would be...you have to be the judge of that. i know a regular player who's a math teacher, he always bets prime numbers so that creates lots of $1 chips in play.... if you've already got a regular game going, find out what breakdown the host uses and see what works and what doesn't.

but really, get rid of the $25 chips. you've got a small set, and they're not that playable in a game, unless everyone at the table is an oil tycoon - then you'd need a 1000 chip set - get more smaller and larger denoms and leave the quarters out.

that's called Spread Limit. some casinos just over the border in the USA have 2-10 spread limit hold 'em. it's a different style of game than no limit or fixed limit.
