Chips: 283 | | | Re: Starting T-denom I voted T5 as my large tournament set is Paulson St Jo's Frontier (and AFAIK there was nothing larger than $100 chips - Using Starbursts as T500s).
I do have a travel set which starts with T25 chips and I'm pretty sure my next set will also start with T25. For medium-stack setups it is more efficient in terms of the number of players you can accommodate with a given number of chips to use 25-100-500. However, if you're using ex-casino cash-chips, the lower denominations are often cheaper so it becomes a trade-off.

And 100's are always so pretty. |

By keeping cash as 10c, 25c, $1, $5, $10 and tournaments at T25, T100, T500, T1000 I can use one set of chips for two purposes and never worry about cross-over. (not that anyone I know woudl ever do such a thing...)

T100 or higher is alright for a big event like a Tournament of Champions or the likes. |

Chips: 2,730 | | | Re: Starting T-denom No multiple choice options? - 5 for my T2,000 "Donkaments" (monthly)
- 25 for my T10,000 NLHE "Samurai" or "Speakeasy" tourneys (roughly monthly)
- 100 for my T50,000 HORSE "Samurai" tourneys
- 5,000 for my T1,000,000 "Casino Royale" short-handed (5-max) set (hasn't been used for that yet)
- 5,000 or 25,000 for my T5,000,000 "Casino Royale" heads-up match (used occasionally)
I've even done T100 and T500 tournaments that start at 1/2 using a cash set (when that's all we've got on hand and people demand a tourney format). It's really arbitrary. You can start with a quarter if you want.
I used to prefer a 5 as the lowest value because I like having more colour on the table -- Always liked the traditional progression with red - green - black - purple - yellow or orange. I find if you start with a green 25, there just isn't enough colour for my taste (but I guess it varies from set to set, depending on the spots). That's the reason I chose to go with a reddish-pink 500 and a light blue 5000 for my Speakeasy set; just wanted more colour on the table (vs. a deeper purple 500 and a chocolate or grey 5000). |

T5 for my T1000 tourney
T25 for my T5000 and T10000 tourney
T100 for my T50000 tourney
I voted T25 since the T5000 is what we play the most.

We use $25 most of the time, but $100 for some deeper stack tourneys. And then there is my Meeellllion Dollar Deepstack Shootout (cue Dr. Evil) with $1000 as the lowest chip and a huge 500xBB starting blind level of $1K/$2K. |

I use a t25 as my starting denom as I only have on tournament chipset (for the moment) which is designed around a t5000 structure.
jdunford, how do you decide what chipset to use on any given night? If I had those options, I would be using the Speakeasys almost every tournament (they are just soooooo nice).
