Chips: 40 | | | What sort of game can I host? See Last post, got some new chips Hi guys, new guy here getting started in the whole poker thing. On a recent trip to Vegas, I picked up the 300 chip WPT set as a souvenir, and started kicking around the idea of getting a home game going.
Due to space limitations, I would probably only be able to accommodate 6 players max including myself. Due to finances, I'd be looking at a micro game, maybe .10/.25 NL game, or something like that. Alternatively, a tourney/league structure might work as well.
Would the 300 chip set give me enough to get going? I know that the WPT set isn't the greatest ever, but hey, at least this way, I can appreciate some nice chips and cards when I get the opprotunity/finances to upgrade.
Thanks,
Argentis

What's the breakdown you have? Number of chips of each color.
Do they have denominations printed on them?
What's the max buy in you would do for a cash game - or how much money would you expect to have in play?

Chips: 40 | | | Re: What sort of game can I host? Hey Matthew, thanks for the quick reply. The set doesn't have denominations on the chips, and the breakdown is below (going from memory here, since the set isn't hady).
White - 100
Red - 75
Blue - 75
Black - 50
Anyways, the breakdown is something like that, but not 100% sure, since I can't seem to find the set I have on any sites that I can access at work.
Edit: I will correct these numbers if required when I get home tonight, but I think they're pretty close.
Edit: These numbers are correct.

Chips: 40 | | | Re: What sort of game can I host? Regarding amount of cash on the table, I would guess not much more than $150 ($20-$30 buy-in max for a cash game, and maybe a few reloads if some folks get busted). As far as a tourney goes, I probably would run a feezeout style to start, and maybe think about rebuys, depending on how things go. |

Chips: 14,790 | | | Re: What sort of game can I host? For six players, you could do a T5000 tournament with your 300 chips.
Starting stacks
12 x T25 (Red or Blue)
12 x T100 White
5 x T500 (Red or Blue)
1 x T1000 Black
You will be able to color the T25s and T100s.
You could do up to 9 players if you change to 8xT25, 8xT100, 4xT500, 1xT1000.
For cash - use the red or blue as the 10c chip, the white as your quarter, red or blue as $1 and Black as $5 - should be fine for micro-stakes.
If you bump up to 25c/50c or ever 50c/$1
Go with red or blue as 25c or 50c, white as $1, red or blue as $5 and black as $20.
Pretty versatile.

Chips: 542 | | | Re: What sort of game can I host? Play .10/.25 or .125/.25 using black chips as the small blind chip and blue as the big blind chip (quarters)
black = 12.5¢ (8 make a dollar)
blue = 25¢
white = $1
red = $5
8 black + 12 blue + 16 white = $20 buy-in
8 black + 12 blue + 16 white + 2 red = $30 buy-in
You really don't need very many of the small blind chips in play.
It might sound weird to use 12.5¢ instead of a dime chip but it actually works out quite well and makes change-making (2 black = 1 blue) and chopping pots easy.
If your players really want .10/.25, then give 5 players 10 dimes each and give the 6th player no dimes at all and he can make change with someone.
black = 10¢
blue = 25¢
white = $1
red = $5
10 black + 12 blue + 16 white + 2 red = $30 buy-in for 5 players
12 blue + 17 white + 2 red = $30 buy-in for 6th player
With these denominations, the white and red chips use casino colors.
In either case, your rebuys would be done using red chips.
As mentioned above, if you up your stakes beyond that, so that 25¢ is your small blind, then move the black chip to the top of the sequence.
blue = 25¢
white = $1
red = $5
black = $20
Easy to use 2 or 3 black chips as a $40 or $60 rebuy for a .25/.50 game. |

Chips: 40 | | | Re: What sort of game can I host? Thanks Wijwij, I actually don't have a game yet. I'm one of those people who likes to have some ideas laid out before I pitch them to others. That and I don't really know anyone else in real-life who plays. I'm in the process of getting to know some folks in the local poker community who I might be able to convince getting a regular game going, but we'll see.

Chips: 40 | | | Re: What sort of game can I host? Thanks Wolfpack. That raises another question. Is 100BB the usual buy-in for cash games? And how long does a game usually last with the original buy-in? Just trying to figure stuff out.
Thanks,
