500 chip breakdown help

I just need help solidifying a 510 chip tournament set. I'm not sure if this is considered a high stakes set, but I wanted to create one.

So here are the considerations:

Chips: Sidepot Inplay

The bricks (24x$10K= $240,000)

Set Breakdown:

I created the breakdown with 20 players in mind because it was easier to calculate for less amount of players. Less players mean deeper stacks and more to start out with. I usually have about 8 players in my home games. I originally wanted to just have the set start out with the $500 chips but I couldn't get away from the black chips, they just look awesome, the contrast in colors are very attractive. So I figured I would incorporate the $100 chips. I wasn't at all crazy with the $25 chips, so I left them out of the combination completely. Coloring up would be done with the remainder of the $5K chips and the Bricks. The set in total would be about $700K w/ bricks.

I have a lot of cash sets, tourney set that starts at 5 and one that starts at 25. So I figured that this set would be a good investment.

I'm not experienced with a tournament that starts at 100 so any advice would help. Is it a good idea, decent, not good, anything to watch out for, is the starting chip stacks o.k for high stakes? Please let me know. I'm going to put the order on it tomorrow morning.

Re: 500 chip breakdown help

We played 100/200 starting blind game every Thursday. Everyone start out with 10K in chips. Which come to 50 the big blind.

T100/ 10 X 20 player = 200
T500/ 10 x 20 player = 200
T1K/ 4 x 20 player = 80
T5K/

I would go with

T100/ 200
T500/ 200
T1k/ 100 for color up
T5k/ 50 for re-buy

I hope this help.

Just curious about the bricks, are they from Kardwell?

I would go with a bigger starting stack, especially since you'll have more than enough chips/bricks. For a decent friendly game, I like to start with at least 100 x BB. This makes for a lot of fun play, a chance to make some moves and not get too short-stacked, and not so many all-ins. With 100/200 blinds, we usually start with a $20-$25K stack.

And with only $10K starting stack, you may not get to use your bricks in a one-table game.

Why not just add 2 x $5,000 chips to each stack. Especially when you only have 8 players.

Re: 500 chip breakdown help

Congrats again on the contest! Well deserved, imo!

I've recently learned that you don't need as many $500s as you might think. Really, no one ever needs more than 1 of them to make a bet... so people tend to use them 1-at-a-time (as long as they have enough $1000s). Generally, we skip a denom when we colour up, so the $100s will exchange for $1000s, $500s for $5000s, etc., so you don't need to worry about "extra $500s" in terms of colouring up, either.

For my T50,000 HORSE tourneys, I start people off with:
20 x $100
12 x $500
12 x $1000
6 x $5000

... and that's more than enough chips (change-making is very rare), but I like having LOTS when you have antes and bring-ins and such.

For a T20,000 NLHE tourney with , I'd do something like:
10 x $100
4 x $500
7 x $1000
2 x $5000

For 20 players, you'd need about:

200 x $100
80 x $500
200 x $1000
60 x $5000
-------------
540 chips

That would give you full colour-ups to $1000s, and you could colour-up all the $1000s to $5000s + bricks if you wanted to (although you'll probably always have 2 denoms of chips in play). In fact, you could get away with fewer $5000s if you wanted (maybe 40).

This breakdown would allow you to have much bigger stacks for 10 players... maybe something like:

15 x $100
7 x $500
15 x $1000
for a T20,000

You could do an 8-player T50,000 HORSE (or stud-type) tourney with:
20 x $100
10 x $500
18 x $1000
5 x $5000
... Sweeeeeet...

By the way, to take into account colour-ups, I'd recommend using this:

Actually I made the bricks. It took me a really long time. Front and back print with blanks in the middle. I made about 24 bricks with 100 sheets in each.

Thanks Jdunford. The arrangement you came up with sounds good. I think I'm going to go with it. You're right, I see $500 chips more of a change maker and adding to the $100 to make a bet then. It makes more sense having more $1K chips and $100 then the $500 chips.

So this is my new breakdown:
