T2000 / $2000 chip Denomination?

I'm still pondering getting labels done.

As I ponder, I've been wondering why a 2000 denomination is not more prevelant? Using a 2000 denomination keeps the 4-5x ratio going nicely, rather than the more traditional step to a 1000 chip:

25 ..............25
100 ...........100
500 ...........500
2000 ........1000
10000 .......5000

If the argument against is that "players can't handle mutiples of 2000" (rather than 1000) then I don't buy it. I've been experimenting with a 2000 non-denom chip in our regular tourney and noone has batted an eyelid....

Any experience with a 2000 denom'd chip out here? What are pros and cons?

I used to agree with you. Then I tried it...

I sort of have a set with a 2000 chip -- well, it's technically a 2000¢ = $20 for my cash set, but I thought about using that set for a tournament of champions one time. I recently commented on it here:
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/chip-b...rney-sets.html

In short, it means you have to keep the T500s around a lot longer, and then it makes odd 1000's in the blind structure really annoying (i.e. consider the blind level 5,000-10,000; takes 4 chips to make a small blind). My opinion now is to go with a few T500s, lots of T1000s, a few T5,000s, and lots of T10,000s (well, as many as you need).

Re: T2000 / $2000 chip Denomination?

Have never tried it, but the blinds would have to work with it:

500 - 1000
1000 - 2000
2000 - 4000

then the problem is what will the next chip be?
Might be better if the $2000 caps the set.

or if you are going to have a $5000 - $10000 Blind
then I'd say make it a $2500 chip.

Re: T2000 / $2000 chip Denomination?

I've used nondenominated chips as T2000 or T2500 with no problems, since my current set does not have a T1000 chip. I think it is a very efficient thing to do T25-T100-T500-T2000 or T25-T100-T500-T2000.

There is no problem keeping the T500 in play until it is not needed. Using a T2000 or T2500 chip actually means that the T500 chip is treated more like other chips -- i.e. it is less likely to be "outmoded" so quickly.

I'm not fully persuaded by the arguments that it is "easier" for people to make bets using T500 combined with T1000 chips than it is to make bets using T500 combined with T2500 chips. After all, in cash games, people make bets with $5 and $25 chips all the time, and rarely have to use $5 and $10 chips in the same game.

[Edit: I do recognize that in some blind structures, having T500 and T1000 chips makes it easier to post blinds with fewer chips. But having to use T500 and T2500 chips to make up blind amounts is no more onerous than using T25 and T100 chips to make up blind amounts earlier in the tourney.]

Personally, I use a T2000 chip for a T4000 or T6000 tourney and use a T2500 for a T5000 tourney or a T10,000 tourney. Then rebuys can be done using just multiples of the top chip.

Blinds are really not affected until the very highest levels:
50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300 -- use T25, T100, T500
200/400, 300/600, 500/1000, 700/1400 -- use T100, T500
1000/2000, 1500/3000, 2000/4000, 3000/6000 -- use T500,
plus T2000 or T2500

It's only at the next levels that it will be necessary to take the value of the top chip into account in your blinds:
5000/10000, 7500/15000, 10000/20000, 15000/30000 -- using T2500
or
4000/8000, 6000/12000, 10000/20000, 14000/28000 -- using T2000

You might not even get to those levels, but having the higher chip is still useful for rebuy purposes and coloring up.

With either T2000 or T2500, the next chip up would be T10,000 but I don't think this would be necessary unless you were doing a multitable event or T20,000 or higher event.
