Guys.
A friend of mine is planning a 18 player T5000 tournament and he is asking me if we could use my chips for this event. Otherwise they use their dice chips... Playing other than a T5000 is not an option for these guys.
I have 540 chips wich I bought for a 10 player T5000.
I know that for this event it could be a bit on the short side but here is the breakdown.
160 x $25
210 x $100
120 x 500
50 x $1000
Total Value is 135.000. Requierment is 90.000
I have figured that starting stacks of 22 chips is the optimal with my set.
Pr player:
8 x $25
8 x $100
4 x $500
2 x $1000
Total 5000
Then I would have enough 100's to color up the 25s.
Is this doable or is it too short amount pr player?
I'm a bit afraid that starting stacks will be a little to short in the beginning levels.
I have run and played tournaments with the setup you mention, and it works fine. A lot of people like to have a bunch of chips in front of them, but this breakdown will work as long as folks don't mind making change once in awhile.
Good work. You will not have a problem. $90,000 for the tourney and you have $110,000 in high values. You will be able to color-up the $100s without a hitch. Enjoy.
I would reduce your $1000 Chips and add more of the lower denom chips to start. More chips in front of you early is just more fun. The $1000's are not needed until later.
Hmmm, then again, I don't think you have enough chips to do this. So you are probably ok as shown.

IMO, starting with any more than eight $25's just creates a lot more work when you color up. Since the $25's come off the table relatively quickly, it is less work for you as TD to have a low number of $25's in the starting stacks. Eight works very well for the tourneys I run.
Yes, excellent advice all around. And you've set up a good tourney based on your chip set. No reason to have more than 8 x $25 to start, or 12 at most if you have extra chips that you just want to use!
If you had more $100s or only 16 players, it would be fun to start with 8/13/3/2 or 8/13/5/1 (like Noelsarchs said), because the $100s are your workhorse betting chip for the first few rounds.
Starting with 22 chips is OK. Most people prefer more but with your set that's what you have to start with. And like Sham said, after a few bustouts everything will be fine.
The tournament went really great. 22 chips in the starting stack was no problem at all. We raced off the 25's after 150/ 300 blinds. The rest of the tournament we used the 100, 500 and 1000's. Only heads up the 100's was finally raced off but that was after 4 hours of play.
Like Tomb1 said having more 100's would be preferable and thats what i plan to add to my set.
The players was actually used to start with even less (dice)chips so they were very happy with both the chips and the amount .
