Chips: 97 | | | Seeking input on new set breakdown getting a new T10k tourney set and looking for input on breakdown.
this set is for a one table tourney of 10 max. tourney allows unlimited re-buys and 1 add-on. average re-buys total 7 but the max has been 20 - yes 20. i thinking i want cover myself in case 20 is ever reached again. (funny story - one guy bought in 9 times that game and still finished 9th. we like to rib him about that)
game usually ends when blinds reach 3000/6000 or 4000/8000
available denoms: T25, T100, T500, T1000, T5000, NoValue
been back an forth but this is how i am thinking right now:
starting stacks: 8xT25, 8xT100, 8XT500, 5XT1000
1st rebuy: 5xT1000, 1-T5000
2nd rebuy: 2-T5000
Add-on: 2 T-T5000
this would need a set of 510:
80xT25
100xT100
100xT500
150xT1000
80xT5000
how does this look? will i be too short on lower value chips? will i have too many higher value chips on the table?
another thought would be to increase my lower denoms by x2 so i can accomodate a 20 person tourney if ever needed and just issue another 8/8/8/5 for the first rebuy. this would also allow me to split the set into two sets - more easily - down the road.
any thoughts would be appreciated. |

Chips: 532 | | | Re: Seeking input on new set breakdown I think your starting stacks and rebuy stacks and add-on stacks will work fine for the 10 player game.
I think maybe you can even squeak by with a smaller minimum set (430 chips) -- if you don't insist on coloring up the T500s at the end. The following set will work if you color up T25s and T100s but leave T500, T1000, and T5000 in play at the end.
80 x T25
100 x T100
100 x T500
100 x T1000
50 x T5000
starting stacks + color up requires
80 x T25
80 x T100 + 20 x T100 for color-up
80 x T500 + 20 x T500 for color-up
50 x T1000
first rebuys by 10 players requires
50 x T1000
10 x T5000
second rebuys by 10 players requires
20 x T5000
add-ons by all 10 players requires
20 x T5000
So 430 chips would do that with no extra chips.
That would be 250 chips in play at the final table (if everyone took 2 rebuys and 1 add-on -- your worst-case scenario). Is that too many chips at the final table?
If so, you'd have to think about coloring up the T500s off the table during a color-up, so you'd have to either add 50 x T1000 chips or 10 x T5000 chips to your initial set for that purpose. That would bring the minimum set to 480 chips or 440 chips.
----- upscaling to accommodate 20 players -----
The reason I mention this is that if you decide you want to double the total amount of your lower denominations to possibly accommodate 20 players, you may be able to get by with a set like this:
160 x T25
200 x T100
200 x T500
100 x T1000 for the 20 starting stacks and color-ups
40 x T5000 = 20 players 1st rebuy
40 x T5000 = 20 players add-on
That's a 740-chip set, if you presume that with 20 players you will be saying 1 rebuy max (not 2 rebuys) and 1 add-on.
With that, you'd have 380 chips in play at the final table (200 T500s, 100 T1000s, and 80 T5000s).
If you want to color up the T500s, you could add 100 T1000 chips, or 20 T5000 chips, or a mix like 50 T1000 and 10 T5000 chips, which would yield a set like this:
160 x T25
200 x T100
200 x T500
150 x T1000
90 x T5000
That's a total of 800 chips.
You'll have to decide how likely it is that you would really host 20 players, to see if it's worth buying that many chips now.
------- or a smaller starting stack -------
P.S. A starting stack of 8/8/6/6 should also be considered for a T10,000. You may be able to get even a smaller chip set that way.
Something like this 380-chip set for 10 players with 2 rebuys and 1 add-on:
80 x T25
100 x T100
80 x T500
60 x T1000
60 x T5000 (all rebuys and add-ons using these)
Something like this 720-chip set for 20 players with 1 rebuy and 1 addon:
160 x T25
200 x T100
160 x T500
120 x T1000
80 x T5000 (rebuy and add-ons)

Chips: 97 | | | Re: Seeking input on new set breakdown thx. appreciate the help.
kinda narrowed down this sets use to the following:
will be used for no more than 10 players
will be 600 pc set.
will be mainly a T10k (ability to do T20 or T25 would be a "nice to have")
will be used for a rebuy tourney (max 20 rebuys- although this will not likely happen)
does that change any of your recommendations?
im leaning towards one of these two:
set1
80 T25
100 T100
100 T500
200 T1000
80 T5000
20 No Value
set2
80 T25
100 T100
200 T500
140 T1000
60 T5000
20 No Value
i sort of like the full rack breakdown of set1 but i dont want to cut myself short on T500's |

Chips: 532 | | | Re: Seeking input on new set breakdown Can't comment unless I know your reasoning behind adding lots of T500s or T1000s. Are you planning on using T500s as part of your rebuy stacks? Or T1000s? Or a combination?
When T500 and T1000 and in play, do you want lots of both, or will people tend to use one more than the other?
Do you want or need to color up the T500s entirely at some point during a single-table T10,000?
Those questions may help you decide how many of the larger chips to get. |

Chips: 532 | | | Re: Seeking input on new set breakdown I really think you might consider a 500-chip set and still have your needs met. Here is one set, where I've added some T25s in case you sometimes want to give everyone 12 of them.
120 x T25
100 x T100
100 x T500
100 x T1000
60 x T5000
20 x ND (use as T10K, T20K, or T25K as needed)
10 players
T2500 tournament
starting stack: 12 x T25 + 7 x T100 + 3 x T500
T5000 tournament
starting stack: 8 x T25 + 8 x T100 + 8 x T500
Color up T25 using T100s. Color up T100s using T500s.
That's why you might want 100 of the T500s instead of fewer.
T10000 tournament
starting stacks: 12/7/6/6 or 8/8/6/6 or 8/8/8/5 as desired
Color up T25 using T100s. Color up T100s using T500s.
Color up T500s using T1000s. That's why you have 100 T1000s.
You will use 60 in starting stacks and 40 to color up.
Or you will use 50 in starting stacks and 50 to color up.
All rebuys done using the 2 x T5000 chips.
First 10 rebuys: 20 chips
Second 10 rebuys: 20 chips
Add-on: 20 chips
So that's why you need 60 of the T5000 chips
That leaves room to buy 20 ND chips.
T20000 tournament
Just add 2 of the T5000 chips to the T10000 starting stacks.
starting stacks: 12/7/6/6/2 or 8/8/6/6/2 or 8/8/8/5/2 as desired
For that tournament, you could say one rebuy OR one add-on. You achieve that by using the 40 remaining T5000 chips. [One rebuy in the T20000 tournament is 4 x T5000.]
If you want one rebuy AND one add-on, then let the ND chip
be worth T10,000. The rebuy would be 4 x T5000 per person and the add-on would be 2 x T10K chips.
If you want two rebuys AND one add-on, then let the ND chip be worth T20,000. The first rebuy would be 4 x T5000 per person, the second rebuy would be 1 x T20,000 chip, and the add-on would be 1 x T20,000 chip.
I think I got that right. I don't know many single-table tournaments where EVERYONE takes two rebuys and an add-on, but you would have enough with that 500-chip set to do it, whether you start with T2500, T5000, T10000, or T20000. |
