Wsop 2007 Main Event Breakdown?????????

I always thought that the WSOP Main Event was a $10,000 buy-in with 10,000 tourney chips to each player. I dont know if this was posted before, but I was wondering how come this years WSOP ME was so high in chips, and found this update in the WSOP homepage:

All four chip counts have been triple-checked and confirmed. The total number of chips in play is 127,475,000. (The theoretical number, based on 20,000 in starting chips times 6,358 players, is 127,160,000.) Seat 1 - Raymond Rahme - 33.20 million Seat 2 - Alex Kravchenko - 11.75 million Seat 4 - Jerry Yang - 71.275 million Seat 6 - Tuan Lam - 11.25 million"

Are all the players in the ME starting with 20,000 in chips now????? If so when was it changed???

Wouldnt 6356 player X 10,000 buy in only = 63,560,000 in chips????

I have got to know, it is driving me crazy.

Yes, they switched to 20,000 starting stacks this year and IIRC doubled the blinds as well (50/100 starting blinds).

but didn't the starting blinds double also thus making it the same just better for T.V because of the large denom chips?

They doubled the chips and the blinds....WWWoooowww

My favorite thing like this is there will be a World Poker Tour final table with 50 million chips, some player will reraise 1 million chips (which is almost nothing percentage wise), and Mike Sexton will start screaming "Wow what a bet! ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!!!" then the other guy will call and next comes "This is a 3 million dollar pot folks!!!!!!! I'm going to wet my pants AAAAGHGHGH!!!"

I love Sexton and WPT, but it's hard to watch sometimes when less than 10% of the chips are in the pot and Sexton is screaming in my ear how many MILLIONS OF DOLLARS are in the pot.

The logical conclusion of all this nonsense is a $10,000 buy in tournament where you get 100,000,000 in tournament chips in 25s and 100s in a wheelbarrow. But hey, those big stacks sure do look good on TV!
