Silly breakdown in my opinion....??

Some guys I know play poker in a local bar every Thursday, me included once in a while. It's a cash game buy in £5.00 roughly $10.00 to you American friends. Anyway the chip values are:

Red: 100
Black: 200
White: 1000

For £5.00/$10.00 you get 2000 in chips So as you can imagine, you hardly get a "stack" to start with. I don't think it's right...Do any of you???
Plus the chip values are way off too,

Sounds like they don't know quite what they're doing, and their main aim will be to get the punters in and spending money on drink... Though I've played in a couple of casino run tournaments in the UK with structures verging on almost as bad...

Re: Silly breakdown in my opinion....??

You get 2000 in chip value for 5 pounds/$10 (I don't have or atleast know where the pound symbol key is located/hidden on my computer) but it is a cash game? That sounds like agreat deal to me. I wish the casinos would give me 2000 in chips for $10 to play in a cash game.

Is it a tourney or a cash game? I guess I am confused

Re: Silly breakdown in my opinion....??

I'm a little confused too. It doesn't really sound like a cash game if you buy in for 5 Pounds and get 2000 in chips. It sounds more like a tournament.

In a cash game, you buy-in for $20 and get $20in chips, for example. The chips are equivalent to cash in this example.

In a tournament, you buy-in for $20 and get T5000 in chips, for example. The chips have no cash value in this example.

I guess not feeling like you have a stack with only 2000 in chips depends on the blinds that are being used. If they start at 100/200 then yes, I'd say your starting short. Then again, everyone starts with the same amount (I can only hope) so at least everyone's on the same page.

After looking at the OP again, it looks like 100/200 would be the starting level based on the denoms being used.

So it sounds like they're trying to make it feel like a higher stakes cash game?

Re: Silly breakdown in my opinion....??

If you bust out can you rebuy? If you can rebuy is there a set time where rebuys stop? If the answer is yes to #1 and no to #2 then I would say it is a very weird structure. How do you figure out the money you get when you cash out (or can you even cash out??). Have you ever spoken with the manager about it and how to make it better and more enjoyable? Maybe there is a good biz venture to start in your area - managing poker games for bars to attract customers. Where exactly are you located? Maybe I'll come over to start the biz (just kidding - I don't think my wife would be to happy to pick up the kids and move so I can run poker games) (Unless the money was really good then maybe she woudl be ok with it )

Re: Silly breakdown in my opinion....??

It's kinda like this..when there's a free seat sit down and buy in, and you can cash out when you like...& then rejoin again whenever there's a spare seat again...The blinds stay the same throughout. I haven't played on this table very often because of this, and I agree cash games should be as said above.

I'm in England, old England that is

Oh yes, you can keep rebuying from start to finish

Re: Silly breakdown in my opinion....??

Buy in for 10 BB? That is NOT good. Gets to be a little too much like a raffle at that point.
