Home Game Cash Set

Ok here is the scenario.... I need a new cash set! Not sure how to break it down or what denoms to get! Everytime I go through it and look at it I think.... is this overkill? lol So I am asking for your help!!!!

Home cash game! Usually we play NLHE with $1/$2 blinds, Limit Omaha High, or Limit Omaha 8 with $1/$2 blinds!

95% of the time we are sitting with between 10 to 6 players at the table! Buy in's are open but most buy in between $40 and $60. A few players place cash on the table as it plays if there! (prob 3 or 4 of us total)!

SO..... what denoms should I use and in what breakdowns? And last but not least what colors would you use for each denom ?

To help you I am going to make this out of the PI Wallsons or PI solids (unless some other suggestion really takes my breath away and I change) so that give you an idea on what the colors are I have been thinking on....

I was thinking of making the following denoms .. but again need help here!

$1 (white prob)
$2 (not sure.. blue maybe)
$5 (not a big fan of the red... was thinking the orange or purp)
$20 green
and a few $100's just for kicks... (black or orange )

Should I have a $10?

And breakdowns of each? Id say we usually have $500+ in play with $1k happening a fair amount of the time!

Ok CT'ers.... do your thing!

Re: Home Game Cash Set

How many chips? Also looks like you'll never use a 50c or 25c chip.

If 400 -

200x$1
140x$5
60x$20
($2100 in chips)

if 500 -
240x$1
200x$5
60x$20
($2440 in chips)

if 500 - and you're set on $100s
200x$1
200x$5
80x$20
20x$100
($4800)

if 600 -
300x$1
200x$5
100x$20
($3300 in chips)

Re: Home Game Cash Set

Man, that must be a passive game if it's 1/2 NL and people are buying in for 40-60...

I like Matthew's recommendations.

Re: Home Game Cash Set

It really depends on the night.. sometimes it is.. sometimes not! Thats why we have cash on the table! (well some of us) We end up with a lot of people buying back in! lol I think it's cause they feel ok losing $40 or $50 at a pop instead of having a bigger stack out there.. plus if they loose the $40 or $50 and dont want to play anymore it's easier and less hassle to have played a short time get busted and leave! lol

For the colours, you could try a (slight) variation on a Cali set:

$1 (blue)
$2 (purple, green, or red - whatever you like)
$5 (arch-yellow / orange)
$20 (black)
$100 (white)

I'd only get these colours if you really like lots of bright day-glo chips. For $1/$2 NLHE, most bets will be made with $5s, and they should be your most abundant chip on the table. For $2/$4 Limit games (with $1/$2 blinds), you'll want lots of $2s for pre- and post-flop betting, unless you're actually thinking of playing $2/$5 Limit (with blinds of $1/$2)... in which case, again, it'll mostly be $5s for after the turn.

$40 - $60 buy-in? Sounds more like my $0.25/$0.50 NLHE game...

Re: Home Game Cash Set

Well like I said above rebuys happen.. and the smaller group of us buy in at the $60 and then place 200 to 400 cash on the table.. over time we have found this intimidates our opps less and we get more people wanting to play the cash game after the trny is over!

I like the cali color set idea... now just have to decide what chip to use for sure! lol I have the label design already!

http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-...72-lables.html

These were designed to go on the solids but I night change that... and the denoms will need adjusting

Re: Home Game Cash Set

I like Mathew's suggestions too.

For colors, I would do:
$1-White
$5-Red (you said you don't like red, maybe orange?)
$25-Green
$100-Black

Good luck with your new set!

Re: Home Game Cash Set

my suggestion:

80 x $1 (blue)
220 x $2 (green)
140 x $5 (yellow)
40 x $20 (black)
20 x $100 (white)
500 chips = $4020

that should suffice for your own little casino. and if you do make a transition to other games this set should do well w/ $1/$2 nlhe as well as $1/2 $2/4 and $3/$6 limit and pot limit games. I agree your buyins are more suitable for $0.25/$0.50 games so as an option maybe add 100 orange or red quarters.
