Not the normal set - Help please on my Breakdowns?

I'm looking to buy a specific chip set that only comes in 1, 2.5, 5, 25, and 100.

My plan was to build a tourney set using the 5, 25, and 100 denoms.

I want to start out with a small, 300ish set, and then maybe I'll build from there (when funds become available). With it not being the normal denom amount, do you have recommendations?

I figure I'd be doing mainly 6-8 man (but I'd like to have the capability of 10 man) tourneys, and T1000 seems like the best fit. Also, we don't normally do rebuys, although maybe it's something we should start doing..

What would you recommend, given these denoms?

Also, if you want to help me figure out my tourney structure with this non-conventional chip breakdown, I'd appreciate it. That thread is located here:
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/tourna...1000-help.html

Thanks a bunch..

Re: Not the normal set - Help please on my Breakdowns?

For the T5 T25 and T100 just go for the 3/2/1 breakdown.

T5 150
T25 100
T100 50

Re: Not the normal set - Help please on my Breakdowns?

100 x T5
125 x T25
75 x T100
=========
300 Chips
Enough for 10 players. Also enough to color up the T5s.

Starting Stacks
10 x T5
10 x T25
7 x T100
========
27 chips, T1000

I should add, I may be flexible on the chip number. If the set needs to be 320, I may do that. If I only need 280, I may do that, etc..

I think 10/10/7 is the best starting stack, given your constraints. You could also make a case for 5/11/7, which would let you buy fewer chips.

So using 10/10/7, I would buy 100/120/80 for a 300 set or 100/120/100 for a 320 set.

This would give you 10 full starting stacks for a 10-player game, plus color-ups. If you started with all 10 players, your final hands would have a mix of 100s and 25s on the table; if you started with 8 or fewer players you could color up all the 25s and only have 100s on the table at the end.

P.S. My traveling tourney case holds 324 chips so my "300" tourney set for 10 players is actrually 324.

That's kind of the breakdown I was thinking.. Would you ever consider going with something like this instead (a slight modification):

10/14/6 instead of 10/10/7? That would mean I'd need to go 100/140/60..

Thoughts?

FYI.. If you tried to hit the link a little while ago and it wasn't working, I fixed it now.

You could do this, but you won't be able to color up any of the chips with 100-140-60.

Right. You need to buy enough 25s for the initial stack plus 1/5th the number of all the 5s. So 100/160/60. And of course this doesn't let you color up the 25s, which could be OK.

Remember, the more higher-denom chips you buy the more "bank for your buck" you are getting.

I might also think about buying something like 80/140/80=300. This would let you use 10/10/7 when you start with up to 8 people, and switch to using 5/11/7 to allow you to go up to 11 people in a pinch.

Right now, I think I might go with 100/160/60, that's the way I'm leaning. Thanks Tomb1 for pointing out that I'd need more 25's if I wanted to be able to color up out of the 5's. The reason I like that breakdown, is because we like to play with a lot of chips, and coloring up to all 100's isn't a big deal for our tourneys. That would give me enough 25's to color up out of the 5's, and enough 5's to get a decent number of chips in front of each player if it was a small tourney (which ours tend to be more often than not).

I figured out with that breakdown I'd have enough for these amounts of chips:

T5 T25 T100 Up to 5 Players 20 28 2 6 Players 15 21 4 7-8 Players 10 18 5 9-10 Players 10 14 6
Anybody have any other recommendations that would sway me away from the 100/160/60 recommendation?
