New Set Breakdown

A friend is looking to spend about a hundred bucks on a set of chips. Sometimes we play tourneys, sometimes .05/.10 NL, sometimes .10/.25 NL, and sometimes .25/.50 NL depending on the crowd. He's used my Faux Clays before and I get the feeling that the feel/ sound of the chips is more important than the looks.

That said, I'm probably going to recommend he buy Palm Imports solid "clays" and get them hotstamped, so he'll at least have more than Red, White, and Green to choose from. This is what I was thinking:

Red 5 x 100
Green 25 x 125
Black 100 x 125
Purple 500 x 150

The tourney structure we use has:

12 x 25
12 x 100
6 x 500

starting stacks, with 1 rebuy OR addon per person of

9 x 500.

10NL starting stacks would be

10 x 5
10 x 25
7 x 100

only the denominations this time would be cents, obviously. Is 7 x $1 too much for 10NL?

For 25NL, starting stacks would be
10 x 5
10 x 25
12 x 100
2 x 500

with denominations still being cents of course. I feel a little better about this structure than the 10NL.

Finally, the structure for 50NL would be
12 x 25
12 x 100
7 x 500

But there wouldn't be enough chips for a full table to buy in and rebuy. I am somewhat okay with this fact, though, since when we play 50NL players usually buy in for 40. Actually, when we play 25NL people usually buy in for 20 too. Any recommendations?

Re: New Set Breakdown

So, about 500 chips and max 10 players. Sounds good.

Your stack of T4500 is odd, why not one 500 chip more and T5000? One rebuy or addon per player, that's 90k (or 100k) at the table in the end, he should definitely have 1000 valued chips too.

Get 120x25, 12 per player, 150x100, 12 per player and 30 to color up greens. 7x500 makes it 5k, so hundred of those, and 50x1000 for the rebuys. That's 420 chips total for tourneys and from NL25 up.

A hundred 5s for the small cash game should still fit in.

And yes, 10, 10, 7 is quite short, but make sure to get all 120 greens on table with extra ones in some stacks..

Re: New Set Breakdown

Stack sizes look good for the various size games.

One thing to possibly consider is instead of reds, buy something like orange or blue, and then use it as 5c or 10c or 12.5c as necessary for small blinds. Then it can also be used during tourneys at the high end as a T1000 or T2000 or T2500 chip, giving you some more flexibility in starting stack sizes and also allowing perhaps more rebuys/add-ons.

Here's one possible breakdown of 500 chips:

100 orange or blue
120 green
160 black
120 purple

That includes fewer purples than your first suggestion, but remember that the orange/blue chip can be a higher society chip.

For the 5c/10c game with $10 buy-in, you can mix half 10-10-7 buyins and half 10-14-6 buyins. If half are one type and half the other type, that will get all 120 greens (quarters) into play.
