Chips: 16 | | | 500 chip cash set - breakdown? I am planning on a custom cash set with most likely 500 chips. My group typically plays .25/.50 no limit with a $20 buy-in. We usually have a full table, and occasionally spill into two tables. Rebuys are common, and by the end of the night, there can be between $400-$600 on the table. I anticipate our group moving off of quater small blinds in the future, but I still would like to have the ability to play quarters for another group. Here is what I was considering in a 5-chip set (this gives me $1,031.25 in total value):- $.25 - 75 Chips (Blue?)
- $.50 - 125 Chips (Maroon)
- $1.00 - 200 Chips (White)
- $5.00 - 50 Chips (Orange)
- $10.00 - 50 Chips (Black)
I could then distribute chips as follows for a $20 buy-in:- 4 x .25 (Blue)
- 8 x .50 (Maroon)
- 10 x 1.00 (White)
- 1 x 5.00 (Orange)
This allows for 15 buy-ins using the setup above. I would use the blacks for anyone that buys in for $40, for rebuys, and to color up as needed. One final comment is that I would most likely leave the dollar symbol off the quarter chip. This way in the future, I could switch it to a $25 chip if we stop playing quarters completely. Is this a good configuration? Being anal retentive, I really wanted to stay in groups of 50 for each denomination, so it would like nice in the case, but that would give me too many/too few quarters. I know I really do not need five denominations, but would like to do so becuase of the theme chip I am planning on. Thanks for any advice. |

120 - 25¢
240 - $1
120 - $5
20 - $20/$25
You don't really need botha 50¢ and a 25¢ chip. An NCV would work out cool.
Distribute the following
12-25¢
12 - $1
1- $5
or
8- 25¢
13- $1
1 $5
Do rubuys in $1's and $5's at first, then bring the $20's in if needed.
You'll have over $1,250 available.

Getting chips for a .25/.50 NLHE game is a little more complicated as other levels (one of the reasons our one game moved to .50/1).
.25: 160 = $40 (just used for blinds, mostly)
$1: 200 = $200 (work horse)
$5: 200 = $1000 (good portion of larger stacks)
$20: 40 = $800 (I prefer $25, but $20 makes it easier for $20 bill increment rebuys)
=$2040 Total |

160- .25
200 - $1
120 - $5
20 - $20
Total of $1240. This seems like plenty for the stakes you are playing.
My advice...build a set that works well for you now and for the forseeable future. You can always augment your set as stakes change.
Besides, you may want to get a new "High Stakes" set when your game reaches those proportions. |

=$2040 Total | This is 600 chips...I'd go with a simialr setup for 600 chips....though I'd limit the 25¢ to 120 as that's cool for 10 people. I'd add a few $1 make that 300, drop the $5 to 140 and add 20 $20. Gives you $1,830...I like a lot of $1's on the table.

Chips: 223 | | | Re: 500 chip cash set - breakdown? I got the following for my cash set ($0.25/$0.50 NL; $20 Buy-In; 8 players; enough for a few reloads)
140 x $0.25
200 x $1.00
120 x $5
40 x $20
Seems like this could also support a smallish $1/$2 NL cash game as well, but we're not quite rollin' that way yet. |

The .25 chip will most likely be temporary, until we start to use it like a 25 dollar chip instead. Once that happens I would breakdown as follows:
.50
1.00
5.00
10.00
25.00
I realize I have the $5 to $10 which is still a "double", but there is not much I could do differently with a 5 denom set. I do not need a chip larger than $25.
Who knows, I may end up with a NCV or just a four denom set too. |

I just need to start thinking outside the box. Our current group typically has quarters and 50 cent chips. I feel like I need to do something similar, but it sounds like we are not a typical set up.
Thanks for the feedback. |

Chips: 823 | | | Re: 500 chip cash set - breakdown? We do the $20 buyin with .25\.50 blinds as well. Having hosted many years with this setup, you will find this to be just dandy:
.25 - 125 (if anything...you can move down to qty 100 on this one)
$1 - 250 (agreed this is the workhorse chip)
$5 - 100
$25 - 25
This will give you a little over $1400 if my head is behaving correctly. We've had $1100 on the table with a single table and never have run out of chips. The $25's can be treated for rare cases when someone is up several hundred, as they will likely never get used for your game. When in doubt about too many of one denom....reduce it and add them to the $1 set. They will be the most frequently used chip. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
