Chips: 274 | | | Advice on Starting Stacks required Hi All,
I am running a T500 home tourney next week and will hence be using the following chip denominations. 5,25,100.
There will only be about 6 players so my chipset can easily accomodate them.
The question is... What chip distribution to give to each player.
The bigger question is - do you think that providing more smaller denom chips increases or reduces the action.
Thanks

Chips: 2,106 | | | Re: Advice on Starting Stacks required I don't know whether it speeds or slows the action, but if you have too many lower ($5's) they will tend to get in the way later in the tourney (and with a tourney that small there's no need to color up. So I'd say use less smaller denoms early on. |

And if you've got a million little chips, every raise will require counting. I like less chips, speeds things up, makes it wasy to count everyone's stack quickly and helps your calculaltions.
We start out T2500 with only 26 chips, blinds start at 25/50
12- $25
12- $100
2 - $500

Chips: 336 | | | Re: Advice on Starting Stacks required Guess I should have read it first. I voted that it would give more action, I thought you ment like if you start with 10K in chips opposed to 5K, and not just more chips in smaller denoms.
I don't think it will have any effect if you just have more of the lower denoms. It'll be more fun with more chips, but it won't effect play in my opinion. |

Chips: 2,924 | | | Re: Advice on Starting Stacks required I've seen several posts where people have said (in other threads) that "more chips = more action". They're usually referring to cash games (say, $0.50/$1 using $0.25 chips rather than $0.50 chips). I guess having huge stacks makes players think they're deeper stacked than they actually are, and then they might be a little looser... but with only 500 in chips, it might not be such an issue.
6-players... assuming your levels are 20 minutes, you'll probably get about 3 orbits per level, so starting at 5-10 (or 5-5), you'll want plenty of 5s so players don't need to make change regularly. I'd go with:
20 x T5
12 x T25
1 x T100
I find if you hand out one large-denom chip (a 500 in my T1500 tourneys), players tend to gamble away their lower denom chips, and then they tighten up when they have to break their big one (which basically is a card-cover until then). It gives them one last hope, worth 20% of the initial stack size, in this case.
If you have lots more 100s, you could easily bump this up to a T1000 tourney by adding 5 x 100 to each. You only need 36 of 'em if you keep the 25s in play (or, at most, 60 if you colour them up). |

Chips: 274 | | | Re: Advice on Starting Stacks required Thanks for the replies so far.. I think my goal is to promote that the 5's are for blinds and limpers only and try to get the action going with the 25's right from the first level (5/10)
all advice / suggestions on how to acheive this are welcome

Chips: 2,924 | | | Re: Advice on Starting Stacks required Oh, in that case, just hand out 10 x T5 and 14 x T25 (+ 1-6 x T100). Keep in mind that with only T500 in chips, T25 is already 1/20th of your stack. That's like playing with quarters in a cash game with a $5 max buy-in! It's not going to last long, and might end up being a crap-shoot. But if you want to the get game over quickly so you can play a $0.25-0.50 cash game after (or something like that), then go for it. |

Chips: 49 | | | Re: Advice on Starting Stacks required You could do
10 - $5's
14 - $25's
1 - $100
or 10/10/2

Chips: 274 | | | Re: Advice on Starting Stacks required Thanks for your help.
I understand about the crap shoot scenario, I personally would play for hours and it would also improve my expectation, but it is a low stakes social game anf the others are used to playing online SnG's which last about 45 minutes. So I am aiming for about 2hrs duration and follow up with a cash game if anyone is interested.
Cheers

Chips: 15 | | | Re: Advice on Starting Stacks required I've never played a t500 tourney but I'll take a stab at the blind structure
5/10
10/20
15/30
25/50
then..?
To induce the most action I'd give players:
10x5
14x25
