Noob Question RE: .5/1 blinds

Hey All,
New to the board, and have a pregunta. Our home cash game mostly starts out at .50/1 and goes up from there, and I'm in the market for some new chips. I am drooling over the Samurai Palace, have ordered my samples, but have a denomination question for those that play .5/1, but have .25 chips - do you give out a bunch of the .25 chip and double stack the small blind, or do you announce them as a .50 and use less? The set we use now has .50 chips, of which we typically get about $3 worth at buy-in ($50 overall), and most people do their best to get rid of them. I thought about getting the non-denom Samurai when it comes out and use that as a $.50, but that $.25 chip is a thing of beauty and it seems wasteful to let it sit in the case. Thoughts, comments? TIA/WWCTD

I ALWAYS find it easier to use a chip at it's stated value......

just use 2 chips for .50....

and welcome

Welcome to the board.

I always use the face denomination as it's actual value, so yes, 2 - 25cent chips.

As for your interest in the Sumarai, yes they are beautiful but do take several things into consideration. For the price there are other alternative routes (not that this route is wrong). Personally, if you play alot of poker with your buddies I would consider going customs.

whose do you like? the pokerchips.com ASM looks nice to me, but getting what i want winds up costing more than the samurais.

Welcome to the board!!

I like the Samurais, but I'm a big fan of the custom ASMs. They may be a bit more expensive but you do have the opportunity to get basically whatever you want on the inlay, including the exact denoms you use.

If you want to see a bunch of examples of custom clay chips, check out this thread. Most of them are ASMs, but there are a few other brands in there. Warning: the thread is very graphic intensive!

The obvious advantage is you can get both a .25c and .50c chip.

More Chips = More Fun
