Chips: 17 | | | Best way to break down set for .25/.50 I want to run either a .25/.25 or .25/.50 cash game. I'm thinking I'll break a set of 300 down like this:
100 x .25
50 x .50
125 x $1
25 x $5 red
I added the 50 cent chips last minute because I like lots of colors. The kids I play with aren't exactly independently wealthy (we are after all college students) so I'm thinking the average buyin would be $10, which is only twenty times the big blind. I'd rather play .05/.10 if we're going to be buying in for $10, but I have the feeling that they're all going to think that's too small. Very backwards. Anyway, I was thinking a $10 buyin would go like this:
8 x .25
4 x .50
6 x $1
with a rebuy getting
5 x $1
1 x $5
and just making change.
Is this more or less the best way to do it, or is there a better accepted breakdown? |

you can give out 10x25¢, 5x50¢, 5x$1 (20 chips) for up to 10 players, leaving you with $200 left over for reloads |

Using a .25 chip - you don't need more than 8 per person to start. So 80 total. ($20)
I don't like a .50 if your using a .25, but I'll address that later.
Use mostly $1 - say 120-180
Then 40 x $5 ($200)
So without a $0.50 - $400 total with 300 chips
80 x $0.25 = $20
180 x $1 = $180
40 x $5 = $200
$10 buy in starting stack 8 x $0.25, 8 x $1 = $10, rebuys with 10 x $1 then 2 x $5
If you want a $0.50 - $380 total with 300 chips
80 x $0.25 = $20
40 x $0.50 = $20
140 x $1 = $140
40 x $5 = $200
$10 buy in starting stack 8 x $0.25, 4 x $0.50, 6 x $1 = $10, rebuys with 10 x $1 then 2 x $5
How's that?

How's that? | This looks pretty good. I agree that the .50 is not needed in this setup |

Chips: 17 | | | Re: Best way to break down set for .25/.50 I know .50 seems superfluous but as I said, I like lots of colors. Do you really think it wouldn't be a problem to have someone have to make change to post blinds every time they re-bought? This is the reason I went with more .25 chips. |

In regards to making change, at first it might be ok, but after a while it may be more of a distraction. |

120 25c
120 $1
60 $5
Give out:
12 25c
12 $1
1 $5
------------------
$20
And it gives enough for rebuys, $250 in $5 (12 rebuys) for a 10 person table.
----edited for clarification

If I was buying a cash set I'd get
.25 x 240
$1 x 60
then for a $20 buy in you'd hand out:
.25 x 40
$1 x 10
so you could support six players
if you have more than that I'd recommend getting a larger set.
Our cash games we play limit or pot limit so it's ideal to limit the denom of chips.
Usually our cash game is a 1/10 scaled version of the casiono's $4-$8 game.
We buy in for $10 and get a rack of .10 chips, blinds are .20 / .40 cents
.40 bets/raises pre-flop & post-flop .80 bet/raises after the turn and river.
I have four racks of ten cent chips, players after the first four get dollar chips and buy stacks of .10 from the other players.
another option might be to only get a few .25 cent chips and get mostly .50 chips, say...
.25 x 40
.50 x 200
$1 x 50
$5 x 10
then a $20 set up would include:
.25 x 4
.50 x 18
$1 x 5
$1 x 1
you would only need a .25 chip to cover a folded small blind, other wise you'd just complete the bet to .50
you could support ten players but all you chips would be in play so you wouldn't have anything to support re-buys. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
