Chips: 4,621 | | | Make a cash set and a tourney set with 250 chips in each. Here is the goal.
You have 500 chips in these denominations:
.25
1.00
5.00
20.00
25.00
100.00
500.00
1000.00
5000.00
My challenge to the board is to build a cash set and a tourney set using 250 chips. The number of players is unknown. This would be a set you can travel with.

I don't think you can use that many demons across only 500 chips and make the sets playable.
My recommendation would be to use the 25s as quarters for cash and T25 for tourneys. Same with the 100s ($1 and T100). Same with the 500s ($5 and T500). The 20s could still be used for $20 in the cash game. In order to even need the 1000s or 5000s for tourney the starting stacks would have to be at least T5000.
With the above in mind here is my submission:
80 20s
120 25s
140 100s
80 500s
60 1000s
20 5000s
T5000 starting stacks:
12 25s, 12 100s, 7 500s - plenty for color ups for 10 players
8 25s, 8 100s, 8 500s - this will work for 15 players (1000s and 5000s used to color up 100s and 500s)
T10000 starting stacks:
12 25s, 12 100s, 7 500s, 5 1000s - good for 10
Cash game: Probably plenty for .25/.50 NL for 10 players
$30 available in 25s (quarters)
$140 available in 100s (dollars)
$400 available in 500s (fives)
$1600 available in 20s (twentys)
$1000 available in 5000s (fifties) |

Chips: 9,139 | | | Re: Make a cash set and a tourney set with 250 chips in each. My rec: Get a cash set and use it for T100 tourney. Starting blinds of 0.25/0.50 would be the same at starting blinds of 25/50 in a T10,000 tourney.
If you play cash games that don't require fractional chips, then play T200-T400 with starting blinds of 1/2.
For 250 chips:
25¢ x 35
$1 x 80
$5 x 80
$25 x 35
$100 x 20
With starting stacks of 4/9/8/2 (25¢/$1/$5/$25) you have enough for an 8 man tourney with rebuys.
You could play most cash games pretty well, although you would need to make change quite a bit.
That's a functional tourney AND cash set with only 250 chips.
L
Edit: you see lots of guys who use tourny denoms for cash games, but IMO it works better to use cash denoms in a low T-value tourney. |

Chips: 14,789 | | | Re: Make a cash set and a tourney set with 250 chips in each. Cash set of 250 chips
Need a multiple of 4 for the .25 - go with 80 ($20 in play)
$1 will be the work horse - go with 100 ($100 in play)
$5 - go with 60 chips ($300 in play)
$20 - 10 chips to round it to 250 total ($200 in play)
Gives starting stack for a very common $20 buy in of 8x$.25, 8x$1, 2x$5 first rebuy done with 20x$1, all other rebuys done with remaining $5 and then the $20's for the wild nights. Will cover up to 10 people with $620 in play which is the probably the limit for 250 chips.
Similar for 10 person tournament (again the steatching the limit of 250 chips) T2000 - need 80 x T25, 80 x T100, 16 x T500 for starting stacks. Need 16 T500 to color up T25s and T100s. One rebuy per player can be done with or 32 x T500. (64 total T500 chips). Bumping up to T3000 uses other T500s for starting and T1000s for rebuys.
80 x T25
80 x T100
80 x T500
10 x T1000
Seems to be the best breakdown for 250 chips. Forget the T5000 chip. (or if you must have a T5000 - go with 8 T1000 and 2 T5000)
So for 500 chips total:
80 x $0.25, 100 x $1, 60 x $5 and 10 x $20
80 x T25, 80 x T100, 80 x T500, 10 x T1000 (alternate change to 8 x T1000 and 2 x T5000)
Challange accepted.
Matthew
