Thumbs up Breakdown Advice?

I am buying a 500ct NJ skulls set for a buddy who is getting married. I am not sure as to what breakdown to get. We usually get about 7-10 players. We start out with 7750 in chips and blinds go up every 30 minutes. This is the starting stack:
$25 - 10 chips
$.50 - 10 chips (use this as $50)
$100 - 10 chips
$500 - 4 chips
$1000 - 4 chips
$5000 - 1 chip (sometimes add this to make make tourny go longer)
______________
Total = 38 chips to start per person. (39 if we add in (1) 5k chip.)

Can anyone help me on getting a break down together so I can place an order with NJ. His wedding is this saturday, so I need to place the order today to insure the chips get here on time. Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris.

Re: Breakdown Advice?

Chris, first I would suggest altering your structure. You really only need 4 denoms, and having a 25 and 50 is unnecessary. Go with 25, 100, 500, and 1000. Get a few 5000 if you want to make things easy. For your games, I would get enough chips for 10 players. That's pretty close to what you need for 10.

16x 25
11x 100
7x 500
That's 34 worth 5,000 and you can add
5x 1000 for a T10,000

You will need

160 green
150 black
100 purple
90 yellow

Good luck.

Re: Breakdown Advice?

I assume blinds start at 25/50.

If so, I'd go with

120 x 25
200 x 100
120 x 500
50 x 1000
10 x 5000

For a T7500, go with
12 x 25
17 x 100
7 x 500
2 x 1000

This will let you color up all the 25s into 100s and all the 100s into 500s with 10 players. IMO, the 1st denom of the set is the least important as most raises and such in the first few levels can all be handled by the 2nd denom so why waste money on too many small value chips.

Re: Breakdown Advice?

I would also ditch the $50. Time to get out of the kiddie pool, guys

Since your players are used to large starting stacks I concur with hachkc. Personally, I'd use fewer starting chips and only 8 $25 but that will cause too much chaos at an established game where:
- you're already removing one low denom chip
- players are used to having 20 (!) sub $100 chips.

Cool wedding gift for a poker player, REAL chips.

Re: Breakdown Advice?

Here's another idea for a set breakdown:
120x25
120x100
120x500
50x1000
90x5000

You can start players w/ 12x25, 12x100, 12x500 for a total of 7500 (and 36 chips). You'll be using 1k chips to buy T25 and T100 later to color people up. Personally, I prefer to start players with 8x25, 8x100 and the rest in T500 or higher denoms. You really don't need 12x25, but if you prefer larger stacks, go with that.

You also have enough chips to start 10 players (no rebuys) with stacks up to 50k if you really want.

This is easy especially if you have the big stack at the table buy up all but the orphaned chips when you color up. Makes the TD's life easier because its less work for you and less chance of making an error.

I agree.

All your ever really need of the 1st denom is 8 - 10 chips depending on chip value unless you are doing antes, playing in a limit tournament or want as many chips in place as possible.

With my tourney set, I have plans of doing a 10 player, super deep stack T25k someday with 24x25, 24x100, 14x500, 10x1000 and 1x5000 (73 chips each); gotta get all those chips in play.
