Snapper set (the pink chip) open discussion - long OP

I'm curious as to what everyone thinks the "perfect" pink chip game breakdown is. One group I'll be moving very close to and will be playing with more often has started a rotating game of sorts and one of the nights is a mixed HE/7S/O. I figure this is the PERFECT place to start a pink chip game. They are playing 2/4 right now so I don't think 2.50/5 is a stretch at all.

That makes me need a non-denominated snapper and super snapper. The snapper is pretty much a no-brainer for me, I want a solid hot-pink chip with a hotstamp. I think one cool hotstamp would say SNAPPER in the middle and some text around it might read, "Welcome to the world-famous pink chip game!"

So... the "super snapper"... To keep cash off of the table and to keep the chipset count down I could use the super snapper. I figure a 214 or 414 purple w/hot pink and it's own hotstamp with SUPER emphasized more than SNAPPER and the same text as the snapper around the edge of the stampable area.

How much should this thing be worth? In the traditional $5/$10 game, don't they use $10? I don't think I like this because you can bet a super snapper for the big streets and the whole point of the 2/4 chip structure is to make the pots look huge, driving action. What if I made it worth $20 ($10 for the $2.50/$5 game). This way they serve as markers for having lots of cash but can never be bet unless the big streets are raised. Once the big streets get raised I don't think the visual size of the pot is going to be a problem when it comes to driving action. Could be a fun intimidation tactic to use the super to raise a weak opponent... they might be scared of those chips 'cause they rarely have any An additional benefit is that now my one rack of super snappers is worth double, and they match the most common FRN used to rebuy by fishes... the infamous $20 bill (two supers for the half stake game).

I am thinking that a 600 count set would be ideal for up to 10 people, only 100 super snappers and 500 regular snappers. I could store them in a 600 count birdcage and then travel with them in an elite550 case. Here's my review of the Elite 700 case, I'm a big fan of them.

At half stakes there is $162.50 available for each player, $325 each at full stakes. Basically 32.5 BB per player. I need a little help here with the math... I know that if someone is losing, someone else is winning the money so how deep can someone go (half the table? three quarters?) in terms of big bets lost and have the game stay within the chipset? I guess if it got really wild and wooly we could just have $100 play but I'd like to keep the cash off of the table for this game. If it regularly got wild and wooly I'd be SO willing to have another chip made...

The 4A14 black chip w/pink and purple, same sort of hotstamp but this one would say...

wait for it...

HONDO!
(probably even with the exclamation point)

So, those are my thoughts so far, everyone SOUND OFF!

I gotta admit smoore I have no idea what you are talking about. Is this a 2/4 limit game that allows you to bet larger on later streets with a special chip?

Games with a 2/4 chip structure have more action because the pots look twice as large as those with a 1/2 chip structure. i.e. if you want your $5/$10 game to play like a $2/$4 game in looseness and action, use $2.50 chips instead of $5 chips. Likewise, the $10 chip is perfect for a $20/$40 game.

More chips = more action.

Re: Snapper set (the pink chip) open discussion - long OP

While I haven't played the "pink game" at the Taj, it is reportedly loaded with action that overflows out to the taxi stand. Why? 2.50 chips and the 2/4 or 3/6 chip format. Just like you said: Chips = Action.

I'm a huge fan of it. Scott Keen used to run a 5/10 Limit game, and recently made the change to a "snapper" chip, and said it's one of the best things he has done in his home game. Each chip is 2.50 and he runs his game as $7.50 / $15 just as the Taj does. He loves it.

Tons of action, nice pots, and mounds of chips on the table and wads money in play.

Great thing about this type game, is you loose the concept of number of dollars and play the game (as one should) by number of chips. You manage the stacks not on dollar amounts, but in number of chips to play with. You look down and don't say "I have $___ dollars" but rather "I have 140 betting units" And when betting, calling, raising etc. you treat each chip as a betting unit. Not as 2 buck, fiddy cent.

I play regularly a $9/18 game which plays with a $3 chip and plays as a 3/6 chip game. Same thing with this game, great action. And tons of chips on a table that has been running for several hours.

There are drawbacks to it though, in that the concept of dollar amounts is taken away so the game is much loser, plays almost twice as fast, and there can be some larger swings in it.

Generally speaking, I love the format for a limit game and it generates action. Everyone I've ever spoken to who has *not* played it never understood it, and those that play it or are familiar with it, swear by it.

Talking to you at chiptalk is very, VERY hard on the chip budget! If I ever have games that high I'm going to have even MORE chips!

Noticed this "wads of money" in a re-read. Do you think cash on the table is an ok thing? Perhaps it inspires action too? Should I just buy 500 or 600 snappers?

Re: Snapper set (the pink chip) open discussion - long OP

I understand now, a very clever angle to get the fish in there gambling and loosen up those rocks a little.

I would love to have this problem and want to get some of these chips, but I am pretty much a 100% online player since I moved to Boston and haven't found a home game. If anyone knows of a game or club in Boston let me know.....

In a pink chip game, no... there is no sense or reason for it. Get more chips on the table, is my first instinct. Then chip people up to another chip if needed or in the case where you run out of pink chips. For a limit game, cash on the table is (said lightly) pointless.

So when I said "wads" of money, I was more referring to total number of chips in play and total dollars of such chips. The 9/18 game I play it isn't uncommon for someone to have 5 racks in front of them.

Re: Snapper set (the pink chip) open discussion - long OP

IIRC Keen got 2K pinks and is putting in another order for another 1K.
His first or second game he almost ran out of chips.
