Chips: 142 | | | Chips for cash/tourney set (added current idea for breakdown) Hey I'm thinking of getting a set big enough to cover my cash games and tourney set both in one... I'm thinking use the same denoms for each, we usually play .25/.50 NL for cash games, so I'm thinking T100 with .25/.50 blinds would be a good bet (200x BB) could just use my current blinds schedule divided by 100. The typical buy-in is $20, so I'm opting for a $20 chip instead of a $25 chip just for simplicity... so my question is what would be a good setup for both cash and tourney... I've been sitting down with pen and paper trying to figure it out but it's hard finding good numbers that will work for both... I'm thinking of just getting enough for a 20 person tournament and that should be more than enough for a full ring cash game.
Anybody have any decent suggestions?
EDIT: Okay so I think I figured everything out with optimal numbers...
80 x 25c
300 x $1
240 x $5
100 x $20
For a full 10 handed cash game, I can hand out 8 quarters and 18 singles to everyone and plenty of chips for rebuys. I should also have enough chips to start out a $1/$2 cash game if I ever get friends playing that high stakes, but I don't see that happening for awhile, if ever. (and if it does, I'll just have to order an add-on to my set)
For a T100 tourney with up to 20 players...
15x T1
9x T5
2x T20
STRUCTURE
1/2
2/4
3/6
4/8
---1 hour---
5/10
6/12
8/16
10/20
COLOR UP T1 chips
15/30
20/40
25/50
30/60
COLOR UP T5 chips
40/80
60/120
80/160
100/200
Anyone care to add anything?

Chips: 507 | | | Re: Chips for cash/tourney set (added current idea for breakdown) That looks like a good breakdown. I can't see anything wrong with it except your tournament starting stack may be a wee bit on the light side. With the denoms in play, I would start everyone with either T150 or T200 so you don't feel shortstacked after the first level.

The only thing I might mention is the jump from 8/16 to 12/24 is a bit big, after so many smaller increments. With the exception of the first few rounds, it looks like your blinds double roughly every 3 levels, so you might want to try:
...
--break--
5/10
6/12
8/16
10/20
12/24
--break--
15/30
20/40
...
The only problem then is you'd lose the nice "4-levels between breaks" thing you've got going on, but with a T200 (or even T500) starting stack, I think your players will thank you for the extra level before 12/24.
To keep 1 hour between breaks, you could make levels 5+ last 12 minutes each. This might be too fast, but it's just a thought. Then you might also throw in a 35/70 level before break 3... |

Personally, I see nothing wrong with his 50% increase in blinds going from 8/16 to 12/24. |

Typically my group's tourneys last roughly 3-3.5 hours. The reason I made it T100 is that what the guy who currently hosts the majority of the time has it as (when I host I currently use my set of Fauxs and do a T5000 with basically the WSOP blind structure without antes)
I think I may end up doing a T200, just because than it's not too much that the tournament lasts forever but we're not stuck playing super tight. That does sound like a good idea (plus then more chips! ^^)
Thanks for the input guys, |

Chips: 2,973 | | | Re: Chips for cash/tourney set (added current idea for breakdown) My last T100 tournament went like this: http://individual.utoronto.ca/jdunford/CPT/CPT1.pdf
... except all the levels were 15 minutes (not increasing in length, as on the worksheet). Basically, blinds doubled every 2 levels. It worked out pretty well... Lasted about 3 hours (level 12, if I remember correctly).
Please don't inform me of (other) errors in the worksheet. This was the first "CPT" tournament; some corrections were made on the fly (in Tournament Director) and other improvements and corrections have been made since... but most tournaments are now T1000. |

If you do consider non-denom, you could easily cover 20 players for a T-100 with plenty to color up (or even up to 4 re-buys), and whatever cash game you want for 10 people, with this 4-color set of set of 550 (200/200/100/50). | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
