Cash game question...

so, i'm going to buy some nexgen and label them for a cash game set. I will be getting about 500 chips in total but will be buying them in two lots of 250, mainly due to lack of cash. and then if i need to in the future i can add to my set if i need to.

anyway, my problem is that i play cash games with two groups of players, the first group we play either 5p-10p blinds or 10p-20p blinds and the second group we play 25p-50p blinds.

so, i've figured out that i will probably need 5p, 25p, £1 and £5 chips to cover everything and every possible scenario. With maybe some £25 chips aswell. so my question to everyone is what breakdown should i use for a 500 chip set? i will be buying nexgen 8002s using the white, blue, red and green for .25, 1, 5 and 25 but what colour would you use for the 5p chip? and what are the standard colours for .25 and 1?

thanks for any advice.

Re: Cash game question...

Standard for $1 is either blue or white, your choice.
There is no standard for fractional chips. Pick whichever ones you like.
I assume you have 20 pound notes? I like $20 chips for custom cash sets because it's a simple "gimmie that bill, here's your chip" rebuy.

A breakdown might be:

100 @ .05
100 @ .25
200 @ 1.00
80 @ 5.00
20 @ 20.00

only 10 each for a 10 handed game in the fractionals but that's really not as bad as it sounds. With the rack of "big ones" you'll have 580 pounds (heh, I don't have that symbol on my keyboard ) just in integer chips, along with your fractionals for a cool 600 pounds available, even without the 5p chips.

http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-...chip-case.html

That's a link to my review of the Elite 700 case I bought for my NexGen set, the 400 case would be perfect for your setup as you don't even need $5 chips for a .05/.10 game. Or... you could carry 20 $5 with 180 $1 if you like. (I got sick of typing out pounds). I'd buy the elite400 in a heartbeat.

Good breakdown smoore - should work well.

With a slight tweaking - drop down to 80 on the .05 and up to 100 on the 5 - depends on the total amount your looking for.

If buying 250 to start - probably go
60 x .05
60 x .25
100 x 1
30 x 5
Then round out the set when you can.

I like this. Who wants to pay $0.35 (after labelling) for nickels? Minimize the amount.

I concur with your "half buy" breakdown.

Re: Cash game question...

thanks for the great replies.

heres what i'm now thinking...

...for the first 250 chips i will buy 3 diferrent denoms of nexgens, the blues, reds and whites. i will not label them until i have my whole set, so i can then use the chips as which ever denom i want and choose. then when i buy the rest of the chips i will label them and be specific about how many chips of each denom i need.

...the next point that here in the UK buying nexgens is a bit of a pain because you can only purchase them in packs of 25! so for my first purchase i think i will buy:

100 x blue chips
100 x white chips
50 x red chips

thats the easy bit! Now we need to figure out how many chips too get later on and how many of each chip denom, remembering that one can only buy in packs of 25 here!!

i chose 500 chips as a rough guide, i am prepared to buy more or less depending on need!

thanks

Re: Cash game question...

You could still use my breakdown but make your mixed rack 75/25.

I'm liking the 75 5p chips more and more.

Hi there... fellow UK dweller

If you work in pence but dont put the P or £ sign on your chips you can use for cash games and the odd T1000 tournament

Red 5
Green 25
Black 100
Purple 500

Just a thought

(No purple 500 or Yellow 1000 in this pic)

Re: Cash game question...

thanks again guys.... its really annoying that my other poker mates don't want to play at a higher level, meaning i have to have these damn 5p chips. I'm trying to see any possible way of not needing the 5p chip. if i had blinds 25p-25p what would be the realistic minimum buyin? £10 i would guess. that for them is too much to be playing with (tight bastards lol).

maybe if i changed the 5p chip to 10p and simply don't host the 5p-10p game. i could have the smallest blind level at 10p-10p and have a 10p-25p game if they want to go up a level. however if i changed the 5p to 10p i would rather have a 50p chip instead of 25p chip. arrrgghh this is annoying.

any suggestions are welcome.

thanks for the chip breakdowns, i will definately use one of them!

great idea, but i've got an order with the bellagio GB (reason why i have to buy these in 2 lots!), so my tournies are sorted!!!

quick question, where did you get your nexgens? best price i could find is £3.99 a pack of 25 at one of the online sites. theres quite a few of them which are exactly the same but have a different name?!? e.g. http://www.poker-chips.net/ and http://www.gamble.co.uk/ different sites but sell exactly the same stock!
