I'm not purchasing any Proteges, but I'd be happy to provide the breakdown of my Samurais:
Cash set:
150 X $0.25
100 X $1.00
50 X $5.00
in a 300 chip wood case with clear acrylic lid, from straightflush.ca
Tournament set:
150 X $5
150 X $25
150 X $100
150 X $500
80 X $1000
75 X $5000
in a 750 chip mahogany case (and can borrow another 50 $5 from the cash set for 200 X $5)
The reason for owning 150 of so many different tournament value chips follows:
- My most common tournaments are a fairly standard T1000 tourney, with 10 X $5, 10 X $25, 7 X $100 (up to 15 players) or 15 X $5, 13 X $25, 6 X $100 starting chips (up to 11 players) or 20 X $5, 12 X $25, 6 X $100 (up to 10 players) or 20 X $5, 16 X $25, 5 X $100 (up to 9 players)...
- I personally really enjoy a T50000 tourney, with 10 X $100, 12 X $500, 8 X $1000, 7 X $5000 or 15 X $100, 13 X $500, 7 X $1000, 7 X $5000 (depending on blind structure). This tournament (with chips for 10, but usually play with 7-8 leaving plenty of chips for colour-ups) generally has antes at ~ 20% of the big blind. The blind structure I use is:
T50,000:
----------
200-500-1000
300-700-1500
400-1000-2000
600-1500-3000
800-2000-4000
* break * (colour-up 100s)
1000-2500-5000
1500-3500-7000
2000-5000-10000
3000-7500-15000
* break * (colour-up 500s)
4k-10k-20k
6k-15k-30k
8k-20k-40k
10k-25k-50k
15k-40k-80k
20k-50k-100k
(hopefully over before the big blind passes 50k)
This is probably my favourite tournament. Blinds double every 2 rounds (approximately). With 10 players (or equivalent from rebuys), you've got half-a-million in chips on the table, which gives you that "final table" feeling, especially when it's heads up with huge stacks of $1000s and $5000s.
