Different breakdowns for Limit and No-Limit?

I am trying to put together a chip set for cash and tournament games and I was wondering if there is a major difference between a limit chip breakdown and a no-limit chip breakdown.

Since I have your attention, I might as well ask for opinions on my proposed set:

200 x 5
300 x 25
200 x 100
200 x 500
100 x 1000

I am trying to put together a flexible set that will allow for T1000 - T10,000 tournaments for 8 people as well as low limit $0.25 - $0.50 limit cash and possibly some $0.05 - $0.10 NL hold 'em games by scaling denoms by 100.

Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Different breakdowns for Limit and No-Limit?

You don't mention buy-in for the cash games and

T1000 for 8 people - 8k in chip in play
T5x10 = 50
T25x10 = 250
T100x7 = 700
Probably 1 rebuy per player using T100x5 and T500x1
Need: 80(T5), 80(T25), 96(T100), 8(T500)
I would go with 100 (5) 100 (25) 100 (150) 50 (500)

T10000 for 8 people
T25x12 = 300
T100x12 = 1200
T500x9 = 4500
T1000x4 = 4000
Probably 1 rebuy per player using T1000x10 or T1000x5 and T5000x1
Need: 96(T25), 96(T100), 72(T500), 112(T1000) or 72(T1000) and 8(T5000)
I would go with 100 (25) 100 (100) 100 (500) 100 (1000) 50 (5000)

0.25/0.50 Limit - $20 buy in
12x25 = $3
12x100 = $12
1x500 = $5
Any rebuys done with 100 and 500 chips
Need: 96(25), 96(100), 8(500) plus 4 500's x rebuys
I would go with 100 (25) 200(100) 100 (500)

0.05/0.10 No-limit - $10 buy in
10 x 5 = $0.50
10 x 25 = $2.50
5 x 100 = $15
Any rebuys done with 100
Need: 80 (5), 80 (25), 40 (100) plus 10 100's x rebuys
I would go with 100 (5), 100 (25), 100 (100)

Minimums needed:
100 (5s) 100 (25s), 200 (100s) 100 (500s) 150 (1000s) 50 (5000s)

You mention 1000 chips
I Recommend the following to get the flexibility you need.
120 (5s) 150 (25s) 250 (100s) 250 (500s) 150 (1000s) 80 (5000s)

Good luck - Matthew

Re: Different breakdowns for Limit and No-Limit?

Thanks for the advice. Sorry about not mentioning buy in amounts for the cash games; I assumed it would be 50-100 times the BB.

The reason I didn't include a 5000 chip denomination is because the set I am thinking of getting (National Poker Series) doesn't have it as a chip only a plaque and they are too expensive. I don't know if this changes any of your recommendations.

But I am still wondering about my original question. In case I was unclear let me restate it: Should the chip distribution be different simply because the game is no-limit or limit? That is should I hand out different chips for a $0.25-$0.50 SB-BB no-limit game than from a $0.25-$0.50 SB-BB limit game?

Kind of a theoretical question, but I am curious as to what people think.

Just curious, you say that the minimum number of 500s needed is 100, but then you recommend that I get 250 of them? Why so many more than the minimum? You say the same number of minimum required for 5s and 25s but your recommendation here is much lower. What's the discrepancy?
