Chips: 501 | | | Need cash game set. I am looking to buy a cheap cash game set. We usually play tourney style but a cash set would be good for side games or the occassional main event. It would probably be a $10 buy-in with a maximum of 10 people. I am thinking of faux clays except I want the denoms on the chip so I don't have to spend the night explaining which colour is worth how much. i'll probobly start with $.10/.20 blinds so I figure $.10,.20,.50,$1 and $5 chips are necessary.
Any help with chip or breakdown suggestions would really help as i've never hosted or even played in a cash game outside of the casino.

How many people? I'm going to guess 8 or so.
$10 buy in -
1.00 in dimes (10x chips)
3.00 in quarters (12x chips)
7 in ones (7x chips)
= 29 chips / player * 8 = 232 base set
10 in 5s should be plenty (242)
20 in dimes (rebuys, extra people) (262)
19 in quarters (281)
19 in ones (300)
100 dimes
115 quarters
75 ones
10 fives
Probably could play around a little more (ie 10/25c blinds (reduces the dimes needed even more)), but this is a rough starting point. You'll probably need to flush this out (ie more ones/fives, less quarters/dimes as this set only has ~164 in value.

why not .10/.25 as suggested above..
a versatile set up may be 50-100 dimes(needed only for sb then and therefore often pulled back), 200 quarters 200-300 dollars and 50-100 $5's (for rebuys), 500 chips min/700 chips max, faux's..run ya about $40-50 shipped, you could also fix up a T50 tourney with that set up.. Quote: |

I like that idea of .10/.25 blinds and as for the chip tree idea I always have a 8.5" x 11" sheet stuck to my dartboard with the colours and denoms marked clearly. I still get asked what colour is what all night long so I am not sure that the chip tree would work.

Chips: 2,456 | | | Re: Need cash game set. the bad thing about .10/.25 is that your dimes are completely useless outside of posting the SB
you post .10 in the SB, someone raises to .75 and you take out your .10
it goes like that all night and by the end of the night you have so many hassles trying to trade them off, since at minimum you need 5 dimes to trade for quarters.
what are you considering for purchase? faux clays with labels?
you can get solid clays hot-stamped with values from BCC for .50 cents a chip. 35 colors to choose from, not a bad set-up. |

Chips: 501 | | | Re: Need cash game set. I am considering faux clays because they are cheap but at $.15/chip here in Canada there are other chips to consider. I am just looking for suggestions right now. I was considering some neophytes due to price as well.
I would prefer to start blinds at $.25/.50 but there are guys in my game who actually want to start at .05/.10 because they are cheap. Unfortunately the two cheapskates are my father in law and brother in law so I can't just drop them from the game.

This way you can do a tournament with T5-T10 starting SB-BB
Divide by 100 for cash - make the chip values in pennies
5 = $0.05
25 = $0.25
100 = $1
500 = $5

500 = $5 | Once the Bellagio's get here I will have my tournament set. I want a different set for side games though.
I do like the 4 denom idea with the nickels.

As for specific recommendations, I'd push for the Protégé chips (naturally), but I think pricewise they'd be a lot more than you're thinking... |

I would love to buy these but I don't have the funds. I am thinking of the Desert Palms at .24/chip as of right now they are my favourite cheap chip.
