Building a SMALLER chipset

I currently have a set of 500 Faux Clays, which I really like, but I'm looking to get a high-end set for my regular home game.

We play a T1000 tourney and the location changes each time we play. We usually have 6-7 players and sometimes have a couple more; never had more than 9 (and don't expect more). Because we move around and because not everyone has their own chips, I often bring my chips to the game and while carrying the 500 set isn't a deal-breaker, it's not exactly...fun.

With these considerations in mind, I'm looking to put together a 300 chip set to take to the game. One of the problems we've had is that a couple guys in the game seem incapable of keeping track of the chip denoms, so my new chip set is going to have denominations. I'm pretty sure -- in fact, I am sure -- that I'm going with the epokerdeals Classic Roman chips.

Here's the breakdown I'm considering:

Set:
100 x 5
120 x 25
50 x 100
30 x 500

Starting T1000 stacks:
10 x 5
10 x 25
2 x 100
1 x 500

Blinds would be:
5/10
10/20
15/30
20/40
25/50 (colorup)
50/100
75/150
100/200 (colorup)
200/400
300/600
etc.

This would leave enough 25s to color up the 5s and enough 100s to color up the 25s. It would also leave enough 500s for 10 rebuys (although, yes, change would have to be made on the table; FWIW, I think we're moving to a freezeout structure anyway).

I would welcome some feedback.

Re: Building a SMALLER chipset

So, a slight re-thinking of this (and I really would like some input, if anyone would care to give it)

I'm going to pick up a set of those epokerdeals WSOP reps; a birthday gift from my wife.

There are a few things I'm trying to do:

1) Playable tournament set with color-ups for 10-player max single table
2) With the customizable chips from EPD, I need to order in multiples of 50 per chip
3) I want a smaller set (300, ideally) to make transporting it easier; I also kind of like smaller starting stacks (20 +/-)

Chip breakdown:

100 x 25
100 x 100
50 x 500
50 x 1000

This works well into a T2500 start:
8 x 25 = 200
8 x 100 = 800
1 x 500 = 500
1 x 1000 = 1000
T2500 total/18 chips

The set provides enough chips for this structure + colorups

With 8 (or fewer) players we could do:
12 x 25 = 300
7 x 100 = 700
1 x 500 = 500
1 x 1000 = 1000
T2500 total/21 chips

Blinds would be:
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200 (colorup the 25s)
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000
700/1400
800/1600
1000/2000 (color up the 100s)
1500/3000
2000/4000
etc. (fwiw, we've NEVER played this many levels)

I would really welcome some feedback on the set composition and the blind structure.

Thanks!
etc.

Re: Building a SMALLER chipset

We do a T2500 at my games.

8 x 25
8 x 100
3 x 500

( 1,000 chips for color ups later in the game)

and we run the blinds

1hr of 25/25
rest of the blinds are 30 minutes
25/50
50/100
100/200
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000 (stop here if under 16 players)
1000/2000
1500/3000

Now we usually have 27 players so we cap the blinds at 1500/3000

Re: Building a SMALLER chipset

Cool.

Players like the T2500 structure? Is having 8x25 frustrating in terms of change or does it seem to work pretty well?

Thanks.

Re: Building a SMALLER chipset

I use a similar structure sometimes and 8x25 works fine. I prefer using less of the lowest denom so that there aren't a whole bunch of useless chips lying around since we rarely color up in our tourneys.

I appreciate the input, and obviously that would work. However, I'm looking at the WSOP reps from epokerdeals, and those must be ordered in multiples of 50. Because of this restraint, I'm leaning towards the 100x25/100x100/50x500/50x1000.

I guess the good thing is people seem ok playing with 8x25 -- it's not too much change-making at the table.

Re: Building a SMALLER chipset

I just elimnated the T5 from my "normal" T1500 game.

Starting Stack:

12 x T25
12 x T100

T500 to color up. Usually I buy T100 chips from the chip leaders at each table and use those to color up, it saves needing too many extra T100 chips for coloring up the T25.

Also I said "normal" because I like to switch the game up occasionally...thrown in a T10K, or a T5K, or even a T25K to spice it up!!

This has been our experience. We always start with 8 x $25, so we don't have so many wasted $25s on the table (and have to buy them for your set, then watch them sit out most of the game). We have minimal change-making at the table, not enough for anyone to really notice.

Re: Building a SMALLER chipset

I would make it an even T3000 go with 8/8/4 breakdown per player and and still buy 100/100/50/50 chips for your 300. You'll have enough 100s to colorup the 25s. You can use the extra 500s/1000s to colorup the 100s and/or for rebuys.

I would use blinds something like this:
25-25
25-50
50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300
200-400
300-600
400-800
600-1200 \__May end around here for 10 players, no rebuys
800-1600 /
1000-2000
1500-3000
2000-4000
3000-6000

30m levels should give you about a 5h - 5h30m game. 20 levels estimated 3h20m - 3h40m game.

You can get rid of the 75-150 and/or the 150-300 levels to move things along more quickly if you would like.
