Tourney chip breakdown

I was thinking of running a 20 person T10,000 tournament with a starting blind of 25/50. How many total chips of each color do you recommend I should have on hand if I want to play with a large starting chip stack?! Thanks for any advice!

160 x T25
300 x T100
200 x T500
100 x T1000
(and possibly some 5k chips if you want to have rebuys)

Starting stacks for 20-person T10,000:

8 x T25
13 x T100
7 x T500
5 x T1000

33 chips to start, and enough extra chips to color up all T25 and T100 chips...if you want more you could do 18 T100 chips and 6 T500s instead...but you would need to buy 100 more T100 chips.

EDIT-fixed # of T500 chips.

You can't go wrong with jojo's recommendations here.

Re: Tourney chip breakdown

Thanks! What if I was to move it to 25 players, would the total number of chips required change at all?

Other than that he has to buy a lot more chips compared to the setup I recommend...

760 chips vs 1200 chips........

Re: Tourney chip breakdown

Both of the above breakdowns are good. I didn't care about a big stack so I went with this breakdown for the Bellagio chips I just ordered.
160 25
180 100
140 500
140 1000
40 5000
20 10000
20 NCV used as bounty chips
700 total

Starting stacks would be
8/8/6/6 for a 20 man tourney and
12/12/7/5 for a 10 man tourney

There is enough chips to color up 25 and 100 and one rebuy in the 20 player using the 5000s.

Blah, I screwed up...you will need 200 T500 chips for that starting stack (and to color up all the T100s). Sorry.

Ooh, and you could add 40 T5000 chips for rebuys and have an even 800 chips. Holla.

Re: Tourney chip breakdown

I have been running a 30 man poker league for 2 years and we use the following breakdown of chips.

everyone starts with 19 chips:
8 25's
8 100's
3 500's

Color ups -
40 100 chips.
40 500 chips.
20 1,000 chips.

Blinds start @ 25/25 for the first hour then move up every half hour.

25/25
25/50
50/100
100/200
300/400
400/800
500/1000
1000/2000
1500/3000 (cap)

My tourneys start at 8 and end around 1:30 2:00 .We run 2 decks of cards at each table to get a maximum amount of hands/hour. Once people bust out there is a cash table started.

18*30= 570 + 100 (colorups) = 670 total chips for 30 players.

I believe anything over 25 in starting chips slows a home game down.
