Chips: 196 | | | Paulson Trademark Tourney setup I am looking for a set of 500 Paulson Trademarks to use for a 6 - 8 person tourney game with the following denoms:
25 $10
20 $25
10 $100
5 $500
5 $1000

as is, you're planning to have all your chips on the table to start the tourny (when you have eight players). you may think that's a good idea now...but what'll you think when the blinds are 200/400 and you still have 200 $10 chips on the table?
get one of the chip calculators floating around, and figure out how to get enough to color up.
i like something like
25*125
100*175
500*125
1000*75
8 man stacks will be
25*16 (three short...maybe get samples?)
100*16
500*10
1000*3
you still start with a lot of chips each, but you have enough to color up the greens and blacks later in the tourny...
if you don't want to color the blacks, then buy more and cut the big denoms down.

Chips: 196 | | | Re: Paulson Trademark Tourney setup Thanks JoJo, but let me ask you this....since I love the blue Paulson and I won't consider a set without it.....will my breakout work or will I have a problem when the blinds start to hit the hundreds with not having enough chips to make change for those who are not having luck and losing all of their chips? |

color up means to cash the small denominations in for bigger ones when the blinds get big, to avoid having huge stacks of small denoms.
if the blinds are 300/600, and a stack of 20 $10s isn't enough to pay the sb, then why are they out there?
i've given you my advice...i see you don't like it much, but ask around...see how many other CT members run tournies with a $10 chip. |

I'd go with jojo on this one, but if you've got your heart set on getting Trademarks and using the $10, then:
You've planned a buyin of T9250, with 65 chips per player....
Here are a few problems:
1. That's probably too many chips per player, but OK if that's what you really want.
2. Starting people with 5 denoms is too many, IMO.
3. Starting the blinds at 10/20 means that your buyin is 462 X the BB, which is too much. I think you'll have a better tourney if you start at 50 X or 100X the BB.
So.... you could drop the buyin to T2000, then start each player with someting like:
10 x $10
12 x $25
11 x $100
1 x $500
-----------------------
Total: T2000, 34 chips/player
So if you bought:
100 x $10
150 x $25
125 x $100
50 x $500
-------------------------
425 chips
You'd have enough for 8 players with 10 rebuys, and have enough extra chips to colorup the $10's and $25's.

Chips: 196 | | | Re: Paulson Trademark Tourney setup Wow, now I am totally screwed up!!!! I had my heart set on a nice, 5 denom, 500 chip set of the trademarks..........we usually use 5 colors so we are used to that. I know what you are saying about the buy in being 425 the BB. The problem is that I want a set that uses the $10 blue AND the $1000 orange. I guess that's not a possibility. Right now we use non-denoms 5 colors broken out like this:
20 $50
20 $100
15 $200
5 $500
5 $1000
With the blinds starting out at 50/100. Would the set I am trying to put together be that much different? I am not questioning anyone's knowledge about poker here, I really appreciate everyone's input, but I am just trying to figure out not so much how logical or sensible it is, but will the set work in real life? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
