Common misconception about the difference between "limit" and "no-limit"... changing games isn't going to stop people from losing a lot of money during the evening. In fact, with so few people familiar with Limit Hold'Em, I'd say you might actually have
more people busted. In .25/.50 LHE, you can still lose a $10 stack in two hands (rather than just one in NLHE) if you don't know what you're doing. I've seen people lose big money in Limit quicker than I've seen them lose it in No-Limit, simply because chasing is more encouraged... with a group of loose-weak players, the pots can get HUGE, as you'll have so many people in the pots, priced into their draws all the way to the river.
I'd say that if you're looking to keep the losses at a minimum, play No Limit Hold'Em at a lower buy-in. That way people are playing a game that they're familiar with, and if they lose three or four buy-ins, they're not writing a check at the end of the night. If people are comfortable with the idea of losing $50 in a night, and you want to make sure that everybody can have at least four buy-ins if they need them, then go for a game that has a $10 max buy-in, and play .05/.10 NLHE.
Either way, if you're stuck on doing the .25/.25 Limit, you're going to want to split your chip set how other people have recommended it (mostly quarters and dollars, with a few 5s to cover the later buy-ins). Figure the most you'll have on the table is 25x$25 buy-ins (that would be a LONG night), and you'll need $600+ in chips.
I'd go with a 250x(.25) - 200x(1) - 50x(5) chipset, for a total value of $500, and then let a handful of $20 bills stay on the table once you ran out of chips. Otherwise, 200/200/100 would give you more than enough. (225/200/75 would be better, if you can split it like that.)
I still contend that nickel/dime No Limit would be better than quarter Limit...
(PS, chip set for that could be 200x(.05) - 200x(.25) - 75x(1) - 25x(5), for a total value of $260, and again let twenties play when you run out of chips....)
