Chips: 142 | | | Chips needed for 7 card stud I wanna start varying the games we play in our tournaments (at the end of the summer I want to have a mini "world series" for my friends. They only really know how to play hold'em but I want them to be introduced to other games as well.
So... I have a 25-100-500-1000 set breakdown good enough for T5000 Hold'em/Omaha tourneys, however I don't have any $5 chips, which I would need for the first levels of a stud tournament. I don't really know how many to get or anything.
Basically I'd be expecting between 10-24 players (most likely between 10-15) for it, with a starting stack of $1500 in Tournament chips, maybe $2000 (anymore than that I think would be overkill for a game most of my players don't really understand).
I was thinking getting maybe 270 to start out (enough to give 15 to each player if I have 2 full tables) and I can just lower it if there are more players. I can just give out 3 less greens to each player and then they'll get them back when we color up.
Do you guys think I should get more.... wait, I know you guys will say I SHOULD... but do I need to?
EDIT: By the way, I'm using Faux Clays until I've got enough money to invest in a nice ASM set (hopefully with fleur de lis mold) |

we each got 20 X 5s, and it wasn't really enough. there was a lot of change-making.
i recommend at least 20 per.
also, i won |

Yeah, I had a similar situation as you azure, my set is 25-100-500-1000. So I pulled my 5's from my cash game set and changed out 2 greens from everyone. There was a lot of change being made, but I couldn't really give out more than 10 per player because I only had 100 reds. It was a pain, but not a game killer.
Couple ways around it that I see. You're dealing with fauxs and they're cheap enough that I would just get 200-300 reds just to have them. The other option would be to raise your starting chip count and tourney structure so that the first ante is 25. Just for reference, I started everyone with 5,000 and my first level was ante: 5 bring-in: 10 limits 25-50 |

Yeh I think I'm just gonna drop the dough to get like 360 red fauxs (even if they're only used for stud). All the chips I need including those for 18 person tournaments are only gonna cost me about $45 shipping inclusive. Then I just gotta shell out the dough for the labels Austin designed me. |

Chips: 1,700 | | | Re: Chips needed for 7 card stud My recommendation for stud tournies with your set up (which is the sames as mine) is to not use the 5, start with 25 and do few levels but bigger jumps. Stud has so many different betting levels and the even though it's limit the bets can get big on the end, as far as how much you invest to get to 7th street, that fewer level changes are less confusing.
A variation on the Texas TEARS system for Stud, this is what I do for those tournies (10 player T2000 + re-buys):
(Ante/Bring In/3-4th Street/5-7th street)
25/25/50/100
25/50/100/200
50/100/200/400
50/150/300/600
75/150/300/600
100/200/400/800
150/300/600/1200
200/400/800/1600
250/500/1000/2000
color up 25
300/600/1200/2400
400/800/1600/3200
500/1000/2000/4000
You can tweek the numbers is folks are too math challenged.
Just make the levels longer than for Hold 'Em (it actually takes quite a bit longer to play a hand of stud). I do 15 minutes a level for Hold 'Em, 20-30 minutes for stud. |

Chips: 1,845 | | | Re: Chips needed for 7 card stud I'm nowhere near expert enough at Stud to know how it affects mechanics and gameplay, but the WSOP schedule (which is what I based mine on) almost always had the bring-in 1/3 of the lower limit. Interesting that Tex's had it as 1/2 the SB the whole way through. |
