Chip Breakdown Cash/Tourney

Hey all,
Just bought 750 2005 JB's off JM on this site. Awesome guy to deal with i'm very happy and recommend him fully to anyone here. Now on with the show

I currently play NL Tourney's with about 10 people 1500 starting stack, unlimited rebuys for the first 2 hours

We also play a dealers choice cash game low limit, maybe .50/1 blinds

My current breakdown is

50 50 Cent
50 $1
100 $5
200 $25
200 $100
100 $500
50 $1000

This will deifnately serve my needs but I am wondering if I should exchange some $25 for another denom. Maybe the $1000's if for no other reason that I like how they look more

Re: Chip Breakdown Cash/Tourney

If you only have 10 players with $1500 each, you don't need any 1000s.

Re: Chip Breakdown Cash/Tourney

I know the number of chips I have is overkill for my current game, I just want to be able to handle larger number easily if needed.

So if changing the number of each denomination will do that then That's what i'll do.

Re: Chip Breakdown Cash/Tourney

If you wanted to bring some of the 1000s into play you could easily run a T5000 or T7500 tournament with those chips. I really like the look of the 25, 100, 500, and 1000 chips from that set and would use those for tournament use and save the 50¢, $1, $5, and a few $25s for the cash game on the side.

Re: Chip Breakdown Cash/Tourney

I'd seriously consider dropping the .50s, 1s, and 5s... you're not really going to have enough left over chips to create a full cash-game set, so you might as well get a great tourney set going.

If you put those extra chips into 25s and 100s, you'll have plenty of chips for a tourney up to 20 guys, and if you do want to use them as a cash set you can just use the 25s as quarters.

The only spot where that gets sticky is when you've got a side cash-game going on at the same time as a tourney, where you don't really want to be using the same chips if you can avoid it.

I agree you probably don't need the 1000s, but if you're getting 750 chips you probably want at least 4 denoms, even if one of them is rarely used. It's kind of a shame to have a set that large with only three denoms, with all the great looking chips in that set.

The setup you've got listed there would probably work, but I'd just be worried that the cash game set (.50/1/5) is going to need another couple hundred chips before it's compeltely usable. If you're planning on making that additional investment in the future, then I'd think you should definitely go with your breakdown.
