Oh, and often the $1,000 chips are the larger 43mm size, which I don't like for actual play. I'm probably in the minority on this....

Oops, I said one last item and that was actually two. So sue me.

Re: starting stack size?

Whomever mentioned that your middle denomination should be your workhorse and therefore most in number is right on. 25-100-500 sounds good to me. So, perhaps under this scenario, 100 x $25, 325 x $100, and 75 x $500

For my tourney set, I have:

260 x $25
400 x $100
140 x $500
30 x $1000 (but they are never used)

For either cash game or tourney, I like to start the stacks with at least 50 chips per player. EVERYONE LOVES TO START WITH A BIG STACK!

Re: starting stack size?

Singlemalt, I presume you will be ordering around 300 chips and will be storing them in an aluminum carrying case. TR Kings are slightly thinner than other chips allowing you to fit more into a standard case. If my calculations are correct, you could fit 324 chips into a standard 300 chip case (and who doesn't like more chips). You may even be able to get a couple of t1000/NCV chips in there to accomodate a rebuy or two or to use as bounty chips. I will get on the spreadsheet to see about a good breakdown for you.

After a few minutes on the spreadsheet I've come up with a 324 chip set that will colour up all of the t25 chips and have enough to cover up to six rebuys.
Starting stacks of 8xt25, 18xt100, 6xt500 = t5000, order 64xt25, 160xt100, 70xt500, 30xNCV
You could use the NCV as either a t1000 chip for rebuys or as a bounty chip (although you would only need 8 NCVs if you were to use it as a bounty chip).

If you would prefer larger starting stacks and no rebuys you could try:
Starting stacks of 12xt25, 17xt100, 6xt500 = t5000, order 96xt25, 160xt100, 68xt500
This will give you enough chips to colour up all of the t25s and you will have enough t500s to either colour up most of the t100s or issue two rebuys.

Just some food for thought for you.

great info brewster, thanks,

yes i want to keep my set around 300

i was planning on no rebuys for my touneys (SnG style)

i was thinking of coloring both the 25's and 100's, do you think i should just stick with coloring the 25's? (this way i will have more $$ to spend on my cash set) or do you think folks like color ups at the end? playing with 10's and 500's together doesnt seem too too difficult...i know were not talkin too many chips here but just a thought...

my original plan was something like an 8/13/7 or 8/18/6 breakdown w. color-ups..i'd need 70/130/80 or 70/160/80..so either 280 or 310 chips less if i dont color the 500's....

my cash set is gonna be 10c/25c/$1/$5, distributing only the $5's for rebuys, to accomadate 8 players max with rb's initial distribution for 10c/25c NL($25 max)..5/10/22 or 10/12/21...how many rb's should i have available for the night?

now can you help me with colors!!! (j.k, sort of..)

thanks

Re: starting stack size?

Glad to help.

With regards to your cash set I would keep the 10˘ denoms to a minimum (either 5 or 10 to start) and stock up on the 25˘ and $1 denoms. We play a 25˘/50˘ NL game and will end up with anywhere between $250 to $500 in play at the end of the night. I don't know how your group plays so I am hesitant to recommend a final number here.
