btw i am buying my first set of "real" chips and just want to get it right, my poker group plays very unorthodox set-ups, no color-up and crazy blind schedules, i am hoping a proper set with proper ratios of chips can "clean up" our games and play just a bit...
tourney use only..have separate cash set coming
which set makes for better game play and versatility(assuming only 3 denoms in a set):
a set with:
100-500-1000
or
25-100-500
thanks in advance
(i am, as per my usual, putting too much stress on myself about this, but turn to you all as experts for advice and help in settling my mind) |

planning on coloring-up the 25's (and maybe the 100's)
which staring stack do you feel works better and why? or would you adjust them and how?

(count wise and distribution/not chip value i am talking about) big stacks, short stacks, medium stacks..(realising of course that they have plenty of chips in the rack to use for color-ups) just curious as i have never played b/m tourneys before, and wondered what their stacks were like and if most found it reasonable... | Large events usually starts you with very few chips - e.g. 8 greens and 8 blacks and 4 purple and 2 yellow or something like that. The reason for this is 1) to speed up the game and 2) because they have dealers that can work out and give you change if needed. |

I give out:
16 $25
16 $100
10 $500
3 $1000
There is always 10 people at the table as that is all I invite. Everybody likes having the big stack to start out with and I always color up the $25s and $100s when they are no longer useable. I have enough chips for 5 rebuys also . Blinds go up every 15 minutes and the games run around 4 hours. Since I got my set of custom denominated chips no one wants to use chips without them. Spend the bucks and get chips with denominations on them....its the only way to go. |

That is exactly what we did last game. This guy was so drunk/stoned he was starting to pass out at the table. Serveral of the guys took shots at him to wake him up but that didn't work either. Every time he regained consiousnous (sp?) he would push all-in and win (he turned $6 into $75 doing this). We broke out the sharpies and got collegiate on him. It took him days to scrub off some of the drawings.
Back on topic. From what I recall, the WSOP starting stacks were rather small for the doller amount.
8 x t25
8 x t100
4 x t500
2 x t1000
1 x t5000

I laugh about it now, but at the time it was nerve racking to be throttled by a guy who was so far gone he couldn't even count his chips.
I normally don't drink while playing, but its weird because the one or two times I have I have always done well. Perhaps I should drink more . . .
