since we mostly use $.25 and $1 and $.05 for the blinds in our regular game and the rest for when we have a tourny or we can use em for higher stakes if we ever do that.. i think that'll be good.. what do you guys think? (what do you think of my color selections too?) |
Colors seem okay... the only real difference between your scheme and the "typical" would be that 5s are usually reds, rather than blue.
As for the breakdown... six colors is a lot. I don't think I've ever played in a game where more than 4 were needed, unless you're having a HUGE tournament where you're coloring-up more than three times.
Playing in .10/.20 cash games, and using the denoms as cents, you'll have no need for the 1000($10) or 5000($50) chips. And in tournaments, you'd rarely need them if you're starting with stacks of 1000 and you only have 10-20 players. In which case the 5s would also be kind of pointless, because in a T1000 you'd color them up very quickly.
If you're going to buy a 1000 chip set, you'll definitely be able to handle either a cash or a tourney for up to 25 people easily, and you could probably do it with just four different denoms.
I do like your idea of trying to incorporate them for
both cash
and tourney though, rather than having two different sets. That way you could handle either really large cash games or tourneys.
So... with all that being said, I haven't really offered any advice yet, have I?
I suppose if you're happy with the .05/.10 cash blinds, you're stuck using denoms in cents, and starting with the 5s.... so how about if you went with something like:
300x5 ($.05) (reds?)
300x25 ($0.25) (greens?)
200x100 ($1.00) (blacks?)
200x500 ($5.00) (purples?)
In your 10-person cash games you could basically just leave out the 500($5) chips, and still have $290 in chips to play with. Figure each person buys in for an average of $20 though the night, and you'll have plenty of chips. Each person will have 20+ .05 chips for the blinds, and the .25 chips will be your workhorses. Re-buys can just get a handful of $1 chips.
In your 10-person tourneys you'll have starting stacks of T2000 for $20, or T1000 for $10, and blinds start at 5/10. Each person gets 20x5, 20x25, and either 4x or 14x 100s.
Seems to work...
