CASH and TOURNY break down...

you can refer to this thread http://chiptalk.net/forum/tournament...00-tourny.html

sorry for double posting, but i figured this thread will get more exposure since it is also about chip break down, and the other is about tourny break down... ONCE AGAIN, SORRY IF THIS PISSES U OFF!

After research my weekly games and askin the players, i have come up with a conclusion... althought everyone likes the T2000, they feel that it is not enough chips...

my previous system was

8 x 25
6 x 50
5 x 100
2 x 500
____________
total = $2000

I am going to be ordering a new set of nexgens soon. 1000 chips..i would like to use about 75% of it for the tourny.. and the rest for the cash game when the players bust out.

this is what i have come up with. its a T5500.

is this an ok set up?

as u can see, it leaves me with 325 chips for a cash set.
now my question is, is this ok? and what colors and set up i should use? i am truly out of ideas.. i did come up with this for shits and giggles.
and i just assume that blinds will be .05/.10 or .10/.25

any suggestions is welcome!

Re: CASH and TOURNY break down...

OK,

in my opinion you might be going round this the wrong way. its worth considering sticking with a smaller value of chips at the start, say T2000 or even T1500, but having (far) more lower value chips at the start. So your 700 tourney chips would breakdown more like 300-250-100-50 or something similar.

this means that everyone gets lots of chips at the start, but still allows for colour ups and rebuys later on as the blinds increase.

the po9int is that its not the chips value at the start (T1000, T5000 or whatever) that dictates the number of chips that everyone gets, its the number of lower denom chips that really does that.

Lastly, having four colours all in play at the same time will cause you issues. Better to keep the higher colours to one side and use them to colour up.....

Re: CASH and TOURNY break down...

I do my tourney's this way

T1500
10 - $5
10 - $25
7 - $100
1 - $500

28 chips total

when the blinds increase to 25/50, we color out the reds
at this point, we have $1 and $5 chips available for the side game
works well for us, we never have enough for a side game until after the 3rd level anyway, which is where we color up the $5's

You need enough $1's for a cash game, enough $5's, $25's, $100's, $500's for your # of tournament players (then reuse the $5's for your cash game)
I've actually switched to a different set of chips for my cash game, but I used to do this and it worked fine. up until I found this site, then I've had to buy 100 NYers, 400 Pharoahs, etc. (Edit: oops, I mean 1000 NYers)

Re: CASH and TOURNY break down...

You might even be able to get away with ordering just 250 X 25 and increase the number of 500's to 150 as the low denom chips will only really be in play for the first hour or so.

Re: CASH and TOURNY break down...

For cash games I'd avoid the 50c chip (two 25's will do nicely). I am going to be ordering a 300 piece set for cash games with the following breakdowns:

25c X 100
$1 X 150
$5 X 50
and perhaps a few $20 chips if there is extra room in the case. This will cover around $425 on the table (without the $20 chips) and should accomodate most smaller games quite nicely.

Re: CASH and TOURNY break down...

i wont be gettin any 50 cent chips so dont worry. hehe.

This is the set up i bought.

TOURNY

GREEN = 300 CHIPS
BLACK = 250 CHIPS
PURPLE = 150 CHIPS
ORANGE = 50 CHIPS

750 CHIPS

CASH SET

BLUE = 100
WHITE = 100
YELLOW = 50

i have yet to figure out what to do for the cash set.. either make it.

5c 25c 1dollar

or 25c 1dollar 5 dollar.

reason why i cant choose is we play very small games...

our weekly buyin is 10.. and i think the buyin for the cash game is about $5. thats my delema right there.

Re: CASH and TOURNY break down...

I presume these chips will not have any denoms on them so your cash set could be used for either micro (5c, 25c, 1$) or low (25c, $1, $5) games depending on what the rest of the players want to play that night.
