Chips: 5 | | | Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game We started a while ago playing $5 tournaments and for the last probably 9 months or so we have been doing $10 tournaments a few times a week (a little less as of late). Once in a very great while we will have a $20 buyin tournament with 20+ people. However, I am getting tired of only playing tournaments but we will still play them. I do want to start a cash game though to change it up to play instead of a tournament or when people bust out.
So, I was thinking for a cash game of buying 400 of the Mardi Gras Ceramics since my Paulson's are for tournament duty and would like another decent and different set to have a cash game. So my thoughts are...
.25/.50 NL (Buyin $15 - $25 up to 10 players 6 - 8 for most of the time)
125 x .25
225 x $1
50 x $5
Chip distribution to each player to start as follows:
12 x .25
22 x $1
(use the $5 for rebuying/adding on etc ... if we somehow managed to run out of $5s I was thinking cash could be changed on the table for chips and the cash kept on the table to keep everything square)
See any problems with this breakdown? |

However, if you wanted to save money or have a slightly smaller traveling set, you might be able to get by with 300 chips for 10 people. Just include one or two $5 chips in the initial buy-in, and buy something like this.
120 x 25¢
140 x $1
40 x $5
This would be tight for 10 people but workable in most cases with 6-8 players. |

You'll be happy that you have a few extra buy ins of quarters instead of making the rebuys try to make change with the table. Once you get a few extra buy ins on the table, then it's easier to start making change from the table.
We play .25 .50 NL with 20-40 buyin. 20 bucks typically gets you 5 in quarters (20 chips), 10 in singles, and 1 5 dollar chip. Guys like to have chips, I wouldn't recommend only giving 12 quarters to start....
I have 200 non denom chips that we use as quarters, and I wouldn't want any less than that. Our game usually is 6-8 handed.
just my 2 cents.

I would rather have more $1, and $5 chips than .25. All the .25 does is start the action...
I know we should just play $1/$2, but with our group of guys, they raise anything! |

Chips: 92 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game I like the Mardi Gras Comps, but Love the Mardi Gras Clays. I almost got those instead of Pharaohs.
My cash set is a 500 set.
260 .25
200 1.00
40 5.00
I find in my games that people are mostly using the .25 for Blinds. when they raise they don't raise .75, they raise in dollars.
Here is what i've been doing--
$5 buy in (not recomended unless you are playing with 5 cents or 10 cents)
$10 buy in
16 -.25 = $4.00
6 - 1.00 = $6.00
Total = $10.00
$15 buy in
20 - .25 = $5.00
10 - 1.00 = $10.00
1 - 5.00 = $5.00
Total = $15.00 |

Chips: 493 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game For the last few months I have been running a weekly cash game instead of the usual tournies. The chipset I purchased for my tournies has been doing double duty as the cash chips. For the most part, the 25c chip is only used for the blinds while the $1 chip sees the vast majority of the work as the betting chips. In the next month (or so) I will be purchasing a small 300 chip set for cash games in the following breakdown:
25c - 100
$1 - 150
$5 - 50
(and perhaps a few $20 chips if there is extra space in the case)
We start with stacks of either:
(up to 6)
25c - 16
$1 - 16
or (more than 6)
25c - 12
$1 - 12
$5 - 1
This set will more than cover our weekly game.

160 $1
80 $5
20 25c & 20 $1

Chips: 538 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game I have a $20 buy in .25/.50 game every week. I bought enough chips for 20 people. Basically my 8-10 normal people plus 10 rebuys.
.25 - 340 Chips
1.00 - 240 Chips
5.00 - 40 Chips
Of course, you could adjust as you see fit. These breakdowns seem to work great for us. On a .25/.50 game, the minimum raise is obviosuly 1.00 but most raise anywhere from 1.25 to 2.50 depending.
Thought this might help.

Chips: 807 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game My breakdowns for up to 8 people
$30 Buyin (Average)
24 - $.25
24 - $1
$50 Buyin (Max)
24 - $.25
24 - $1
4 - $5
When someone wants to rebuy, we usually just give a player or two some $5 chips in exchange for some $.25 and $1 chips. |
