I personally wouldn't recommend using the .50 chips. Like I said before, even though your playing 25/50, betting is usually in increments of $1.00. |

I have seen some other breakdowns here that use the .50 chip as the work horse and play with only a handful of .25 chips in play (just used to post the small blind then pulled when they complete the bet or raise)
It really comes down to personal preference and how much money you want to spend on chips. |

Chips: 400 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game My thought was to buy 5 denominations of chips (25/50/100/500/1000) to use them as cents for micro cash games or whole units for one table SnGs.
Was thinking of the following quantities (310 chips total):
80 x 25 (2,000)
120 x 50 (6,000)
80 x 100 (8,000)
20 x 500 (10,000)
10 x 1000 (10,000)
Are these quantities out of balance for 5-10 person games? |

Chips: 1,565 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game Are those preset chips your buying (meaning you can't customize the amount of each color)?
I would just suggest this:
100 x 25 (2,500)
140 x 100 (14,000)
40 x 500 (20,000)
20 x 1000 (20,000)
That's 300 chips and $565. Your set idea was 310 and $360.
I don't know. When I bought my first set of chips I had 6 colors and they were 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100. Then I added a 500, and 1000 chip. When I ran a tournament I thought everybody should get some of each chip color. Basically it was nightmarish! Every hand somebody had to ask what each color was worth, even when it was posted on the walls. Then when I would color up I didn't remove that many chips from the table. Having more denoms does mean you can be more flexible in your organization of blinds, but you will need to leave more chips on the table for longer periods of time.
If I could have done that set over the first time....I would have made them 1, 5, 25, 100, 500, 1000. That would suit well to small cash games and small tournies.
If I were to set up a custom cash set game I would go with .05, .25, $1, $5, $10, $20, $50 chips (This is actually how I have my Sopranos set arranged). The only reason is that these are actual monetary denominations used by our government, and there is a progression of the next chip being equal to 4x or 5x the previous chip. (I know its not that way with the big money chips but I only have 20 x $10, and 10 x $20, and 1 x $50)
It really comes down to this....it's your money, they are gonna be your chips, you are the one that needs to be happy with them. I hope I have helped here at least a little bit.... |

Chips: 142 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game Istill use low budget chips... Faux Clays are used for tournaments, but I use some of my Dice chips as a cash set... my breakdown is this:
$.25 - 160
$1 - 240
$5 - 100
The most I ever have is 8 because of an octagon, but this is meant for up to 10 people... As an initial buy-in (usually $20) I give 16 quarters and 16 $1s. All extra money put on the table is given out first in 10 $1s and 2 $5s, and then just $5s if I run out of $1s. I recommend everyone who plays at my apartment to decide on an amount they're willing to put into the game before they quit, and to only buy-in in $20 increments to help any variance a little bit. |

I would think a max buy in of 40bb would cause more variance, not less. |

Chips: 142 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game It keeps people from losing more money than they want to at any given time~_~
And for the most part, the players at my game don't play any differently short stacked or deepstacked. |

Chips: 76 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game I would suggest even less $.25 chips. With the mixed game ($20/$40 limit) that I am currently running we only use $5 chips for ante's/bring in's ($5 ante, $5 bring in) and the small blinds and ante's in NL ($5/$10 blinds + $5 ante, with a $500 cap). The game runs smoothly with everyone recieving only 4 $5 chips. As long as you aren't taking small chips off the table (rake or other reasons) you will never need more than a few at a time, and in reality making change will rarely even slow the game down at all.
You will probably find that 8x$.25 is more than enough. |

Chips: 2,332 | | | Re: Chip Breakdown .25/.50 NL cash game I am looking at this also.
I want a cash game set. I want clay chips. I used the Breakdown Calculator v0.6 to get this.
.25 - 120 chips. 12 chips for 10 players.
1.00 - 120 chips. 12 chips for 10 players.
5.00 - 10 chips. 1 chip for 10 players.
250 total chips.
I think I would like to have 500 - 600 chips just in case. Should I double this set above? I still have not decided which clay chip I want either.
