Chips: 13 | | micro cash AND tourney in one set??? Hi guys... I'll keep this brief since I'm sure you all are tired of answering these questions, but I couldn't find a thread to answer this. Normally I play NL Hold'em with:
Cash Game $20-$50 buy in
6-8 players
$0.25/$0.50 starting blinds then increasing
I also play tourney with:
$20-$50 buy in T1000
6-8 players
$5/$10
Basically I'm looking for a chip breakdown and how large a set I'll need to accomodate both styles of play as well as coloring up. I'm guessing I'll need .25/1/5/25/100/500 chips. Maybe not the 500, but you never know.
Any thoughts, concerns, suggestions??? |

Chips: 34 | | | Re: micro cash AND tourney in one set??? if you were looking to keep the # of chips down you could use your $25 as a 25c and the $100 as your $1...
...seems like a few people around here do this. someone wiser than i can give their experience with this setup.

Chips: 13 | | | Re: micro cash AND tourney in one set??? Thanks. I had read that as well. I must be honest and say that I wanted to get denoms that were exclusive to the game being played. I guess I'm just anal that way, plus, truth be told, I like the idea of having a bunch of different chips to look at. hahaha. |

Chips: 18,394 | | | Re: micro cash AND tourney in one set??? Here's what I would buy as a decent quantity of chips that would support 10 players in a tournament -- T$1,000 with $5/10 blinds, and using $5-$25-$100 chips in the starting stack. Plus you could have a big cash game going on at the same time or when folks bust out of the tourney.
200 x 25¢
200 x $1
100 x $5
180 x $25
100 x $100
20 x $500
Total 800 chips.
If you'll only have 6-8 players you could get away with this:
150 x 25¢
150 x $1
70 x $5
140 x $25
75 x $100
15 x $500
Total 600 chips.
But I assume you'd rather buy 800 chips than 600 chips, huh?!? |

Chips: 493 | | | Re: micro cash AND tourney in one set??? If you are willing to get a total of 800 chips you could look at getting two sets (one for cash games and one for tournies). I have the tournament set at the moment and am working on getting the funds together for the cash set. For the budget concious, the tourny set can be used for cash games by dividing the denoms by 100.
300 piece cash set
100 - 25c
150 - $1
50 - $5
500 piece tourny set
150 - $25
200 - $100
100 - $500
50 - $1000
This will allow you to accomodate a cash game with up to $450 (if I am not mistaken) on the table while running a T5000 tournament on the side. And no chips used in one game can be smuggled to the other table for an unfair advantage.
BTW: Some cases will accomodate a few extra chips per row so you could add a $20 chip to the cash set to suit the high rollers.

Chips: 38 | | | Re: micro cash AND tourney in one set??? Right now I'm working on a setup that will allow for either regular or deepstack tourneys, as well as cash games, for 10 people.
The best setup I've come up with so far is:
400x(25)
400x(100)
150x(500)
50x(1000)
-----------
1000 chips
Obviously, for the cash games, the denom would be in cents, rather than dollars, so you'd have plenty of chips on hand for a 25/50 game or a 50/100 game. 10 people could each buy-in for up to $100 each and you'd have plenty of chips. Once you get higher than that, like $1/$2, you'd want more $5/500 chips.
This setup works for regular tournaments of up to 20 buy-ins (so with 10 people you could have 10-rebuys), with starting stacks of 2500. Each buy-in gets 20x(25) + 15x(100) + 1x(500) = 2500. Blind levels for this tourney would be 25/50, 50/100, 75/150, 100/200, 150/300 (colorup), 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, 600/1200, 800/1600 (colorup), 1000/2000, 1500/3000, 2000/4000. With 20 minute blind levels, this tournament should be over in 4 hours.
Or, you could use this for a deep-stack freezeout tournament, with starting stacks of 8000. 32x(25) + 32x(100) + 8(500) = 8000. Blind levels would be the same, with an additional 2500/5000, 3000/6000, 3500/7000, 4000/8000, 5000/10000. With 20 minute blind levels, this tournament should theoretically be over in 6 hours, but likely quicker with no re-buys.
Granted, this could get pretty boring for those knocked out early, but once you color up the 25s (at around the 2 hour mark) you should have enough of those chips to accomidate a small 25/50 cash game on the side.
So, in conclusion, if the buyin for the regular tourney (2500) was $25, all the chips in play would be worth their face value in cents, regardless of whether they are in the tourney or in the cash games. |

Chips: 15,965 | | | Re: micro cash AND tourney in one set??? i recently did this by buying 1700 fauxs. to do two sets that can handle a buncha people, you need a buncha chips. with custom vinyl labels, these were still in the .15-.20 range per chip.
my breakdown:
200 white
200 blue
200 red
280 green
375 black
270 purple
150 orange
30 grey
okay, i sorta made that up, b/c i don't have it with me. but even with this, i'll probably end up sharing chips between the cash and tourny sets.
either way, i really recommend these chips with custom labels. i had lynbark do my artwork, and hogwild'll do the labels. they're reasonably priced, and they look great.
cheers. |
