Back in Dec 2005, I purchased a 300CT set of Chipco Classics. (history -> http://chiptalk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12721 Thanks for everyone’s help!) However, it is no secret I WANT CUSTOMS! And I may be pulling the trigger on a custom set soon and will end up selling my current set to a friend. (Stay tuned for the design help threads. )
I only hold 10 player PL ring games with $1 / $2 blinds and a max $100 buy in. With my current set (100 - $1, 150 - $5, and 50 - $25) I noticed that all of my $1 are always out on the table and we continuously make change for $1s to post the blinds. Not too bad but frequent nevertheless. Of course, a good solution is to get more $1 but I recently helped my friend get a tourney set where we added $1 and $2 chips to support the side games. Lately , I’ve been playing in the side game a lot and really like having the $2 chip. To me it works well with our PL game we play. So, I'm interested in getting $2 chips.
I always thought once I get customs, I like my set to support my PL game and possibly support a 10 player SnG (maybe T800 or so) which means getting $100 chips as well. I haven't held a SnG but would like too if I get the right set. I’ve seen a few different breakdowns on the site but I would like more opinions. I’m looking at a 500 ct set max. Whatcha think would be a good breakdown to support both? Should I really get the $2 or I'm better off getting more $1 instead and save on the extra denom?
UPDATE: Played around a bit and thought of these two sets
100 x $1
100 x $2
150 x $5
100 x $25
50 X $100
$8,550 total for cash aand able to hold a T800 SnG
Or
200 x $1
150 x $5
100 x $25
50 X $100
$8, 450 total for cash and able to hold a T800 SnG
Well I started a post and then went back through the old post for more info.
I think either of those breakdowns would work fine, your main goal by the sounds of it was to create a set where you would not have to make change for your $1's all the time, either breakdown accomplishes that.
I would only make one suggestion. Take out 25 of the $2 and make them into $100. Then you could have a T1000 tourney, which would emulate more of the SNG formats online. Plus it could possibly make the cash game a little heavier with the moola!!
Starting stacks of:
10 * T5
10 * T25
7* T100
Start out the blinds at 5/10, or 10/20
And that would also leave you with 5 T100 chips to color up the 5's.
I took this part out once but I am going to put it back in....
Also with that change you could run a side cash game while the tournament was going on. As guys get knocked out they can buy the $1 and $2 chips, then when the tourney is over everyone can get the higher denom chips.
Good looking out on the extra 25 $100 suggestion. I like the T1000 vs T800. Maybe I should go this route
100 x $1
100 x $2
125 x $5
100 x $25
75 X $100
this gives me the best of both worlds as you said still. By reducing the $5 doesn't change much in the SnG and it really just changes the amount available for the side game to $525 while the tourney is still going. With PL at our games, the $25s do come out still allowing for the extra dinero.
Now, it's time to work on my chip designs.
