hi guys, im new to this site and i need to figure out how many people i could sit with 900 chips. the breakdown goes as follows:
250-white
250-red
150-blue
150-black
100-green

i can figure on about 18 max, could i possibly sit more than that for a tournament with this set?

It depends on if your chips are denominated or not. If not, you can switch up the colors a bit. If you want a T5000 or a T10,000 you could do as follows...
Each
4 Greens (25)
9 Reds (100's)
4 Whites (500's)
2 blues (1000's)

and If you wanted T10,000 just add 1 black chip (5000's).
If you did it this way, you could easily have 25 people.

Your quantities and colors are typical of what you get in a fixed setup, though they're not exactly right for actual use. But you could have a nice tournament for up to 30 players if you use your setup for these denoms:

250-white = $25
250-red = $100
150-blue = $500
150-black = $1000
100-green = $5000

Start out with a stack of 23 chips for T$10,000 made up like this (close to mtvernonbryan's suggestion):

8 x white $25
8 x red $100
4 x blue $500
2 x black $1000
1 x green $5000

You can start with $25/50 blinds (starting stack is 200 x BB) and use the WSOP blind schedule if you like. Color up your $25s with $100s and $500s, then color up your $100s and $500s with $1000s.
