Heads up chip breakdown

I dont have much money to spend on chips, but i was thinking of getting some paulson chips. Just a set of 100 to start out and i was wondering your opinion on this subject. Mainly if this would be good for heads up play. This may not make sense its 6:30 here where i am and i havnt slept, thanks

Re: Heads up chip breakdown

i have a regular and running headsup match with a close friend. we start with 50 chips each of the same denomination. the blinds start at 1/2, and...well, we usually play it out at that stake (somewhere between 1 hand and an hour).

if you wanted to do 2 denoms (like the hpc setup), i'd go something like
80 X 100
20 X 500
100

then, instead of starting with 5000 chips, you'd start with 9000. then, i suspect you'd have to move the blinds up a bit over time.

Re: Heads up chip breakdown

Yeah, exactly as Jojo says. For HU you could go with one denomination, or a few (10%-20%) higher denoms. Just give out all the chips and winner takes all.

You could also start by buying 50-60 chips if you want to save money.

Heads up is great poker. (And it's about the only part of the game I don't suck at.)

Re: Heads up chip breakdown

I bought one of these for Christmas for $150 with 2 decks of KEM cards too:

http://www.holdempokerchips.com/prod...p?prod=BTSET05

For the wife and I to play Heads Up with nice chips.

We chose the Mardi Gras NCV Clays, (you could pick the Paulson Pharoahs) getting:

80 of the greens (we say they are $25 = $2000)
20 of the blacks (we say they are $100 = $2000)

We split them in half (40 green and 10 black = $2000 each) and have a blast with our one set of nice chips.

Really great deal on a nice set-up of chips, cards and a case to keep them in.

Re: Heads up chip breakdown

Reviving a topic. I'm just curious what people use for a heads up chipset. The possibility of a GB on PNYs has got me thinking about what kind of a set I would like.

I like the idea of having a bunch of chips - 2 denominations (3 at the most). I was thinking about getting 100 $1 and 200 $5. That's give $550 each and 150 chips each which I think would work pretty good for 1-2 blinds.

I really like to have the ability to have deep stack heads up matches with a decent number of chips in play. Anyone have other feedback on larger heads up chips sets they've assembled?

Re: Heads up chip breakdown

Just bought some Samurais to use for this purpose.

40 - $.25 (or $25)
50 - $1 (or $100)
10 - $5 (or $500)

I chose this setup because it allows for 3 players to play if needed

Starting breakdown:

20 - $.25 - $5 Total
25 - $1 - $25 Total
5 - $5 - $25 Total

Blinds start at $.25/$.50, giving us 110 blinds to start.

Re: Heads up chip breakdown

This is a little more than 100, but I like how many chips you start with...

50x$1
10x$5
$100 total.

120 chips, no colorups needed.

thats makes for 6 stacks of 10 in a nice triangle.

You could get T100 and T500 if you wanted to a T10,000 tourney instead.

otherwise you could go with something like...

20x$1 or T100
16x$5 or T500

72 total chips..

or

25 x $1 or T100
15 x $5 or T500

80 total chips...

blinds could be...

$1/$2 or T100/T200
$2/$4 or T200/T400
$3/$6 or T300/T600
$4/$8 or T400/T800
$5/$10 or T500/T1000
$6/$12 or T600/T1200
$8/$16 or T800/T1600
$10/$20 or T10000/T20000

just my $0.02

Re: Heads up chip breakdown

I have the HPC heads-up set like so many others posting here. I chose the Samurais and have a 60/40 breakdown of $100/500 chips. I picked those two chips simply because they were my favorites from the chipset and didn't give too much thought to the breakdown before purchase. It's worked out OK though.

Re: Heads up chip breakdown

seems like everyone likes to keep their heads up sets small which makes sense since if you are going to pay a decent amount for chips, spending like 300 or so on just a heads up set is a little silly. Hmm, need to find a reasonable way to get a set up that can accommodate 100-300 BB play with probably 150 chips max I guess is my goal at the moment.

Why the 80/20 breakdown convention? It seems like you are fairly limited (20 BB in the 80 chip color + 25 BB in the 20 color chip (5x the 80)) assuming blinds are 1x and 2x the 80 color chip.
