Chips: 14 | | | 1000 chip set denominations i have a set of 1000 chips. they dont have denominations just yet. theres gonna be a game with some of my close friends tomorrow, none of them play poker on a serious level and really want to just have a fun time without losing money. i told them that the buyin would only be $5.
i have these people over pretty often. they don't want to learn to rules of limit and like playing no-limit because the betting rules aren't strict (and we always get a good laugh when somebody makes a big bet and tries to stare down an opponent without either of the two laughing). this is fine with me. we'll just drink beer and play around. so my question is, what should the chip denominations and set up look like? i have:
300 white
400 blue
200 yellow
100 black
so if you dont mind, could you suggest a starting chip count and their denominations? also, i'm not sure if we should play a cash game with rebuys or a tournament. i know the cash game would be lame since its only $5/person, but this isn't gonna be about making money and i dont want anybody knocked out with nothing to do. so yeah. basically i'm asking what you experienced guys would do with these chips and these 8-10 people putting in 5 bucks each, with a no-limit game (or tourny). if more info is needed, i'm on my compy checking this thread every 2 minutes, haha.
thanks so much! you all are the best! |

White = .05
Blue = .10
Yellow = .25
Black = 1.00
Start with
20 white
20 blue
8 yellow |

Chips: 1,845 | | | Re: 1000 chip set denominations Very similar to my old set of diamonds that I had. The colors are wacky, but no big deal. Here's the format I used to use.
400 blue - $5
300 white - $25
200 yellow - $100
100 black - $500
Start everyone off with 1500 in chips. I always liked a lot of chips in play, so I gave out 20 5's, 20 25's, and 9 100's. Should be more than enough chips for up to 16 players.
This is for tourney by the way. That seems to be what everyone wants to do and sounds like what your friends probably have in mind. Start your blinds off at 5-10 or 10-20 and away you go. For a friendly game like this, you probably also want to allow rebuys for the first hour or so as well. Quote: |

Chips: 29,466 | | | Re: 1000 chip set denominations For a cash game, you could go with $.05, $.25, and $1 chips.
For a $5 buyin, give each player
20 x $.05
16 x $.25
----------------
36 chips per player.
So for 10 people, you'd need:
200 x $.05 chips
160 x $.25 chips
For rebuys, make the third color a $1 chips, issue 5 of them, and have that player make change from somebody else.

Chips: 177 | | Re: 1000 chip set denominations DST, since they are not marked you can pretty much do anything. Cash game might be lame but since it's for fun and your talking $5 you can make it micro demons give each player the following for $5:
.10/.25 blinds for the night
.10 Blue x 10
.25 White x 8
.50 Yellow x 2
$1 Black x 1
Which gives them 21 chips to make it seem like they are holding big stacks and rebuy when they bust out.
Or, with 10 people and everyone just bringing $5, I would do a SNG style or small T500. Have everyone put in their $5 and make the break down on denoms something like:
$1 Blue x 25
$5 White x 25
$25 Yellow x 10
$100 Black x 1
Use a blind structure 20 minutes each level like below and winner takes all: $3 $6, $5 $10, $10 $20, $20 $40, $25 $50, -Color up $1 & $5 - $50 $100, $75 $150, $100 $200, $125 $250, $150 $300, $200 $400, $300 $600, $400 $800, $500 $1,000
I quickly throguh this structure together. But you get my point. Play and winner takes all.
There's another thread here that talks about structures and you may gain something from it. http://chiptalk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12100
Ring game = cash game
BTW I love this site too.

Chips: 14 | | | Re: 1000 chip set denominations oh man, these replies are so helpful. i'll propose what i think suits us best in a bit. but on a different note, i got 300 white and 400 blue chips because i thought, in limit games, that the white would always be the small blinds and the blue would be the big blinds (and the opening bet for preflop, and flop). so i thought more blue was needed. i read a lot of threads on here and ordered the chips accordingly. i wanted white to be the lowest, then blue, then yellow, then black as the highest value.
oh boy, did i do this poorly? |

Chips: 1,845 | | | Re: 1000 chip set denominations Didn't mean anything bad by calling your colors wacky. It's all about personal preference. That said, there is a great many of us that tend to follow the casino "standard" for denom colors. I put standard in quotes because there's variation in some denoms depending on casino, state, etc.
When I had my diamond set I had:
Red = $5
Green = $25
Black = $100
Purple = $500
Yellow = $1000
Those are fairly standard in just about every casino although $1000 can vary. Red, green, black, and generally purple though will be the same pretty much everywhere.
I won't even start up the debate just yet. |

Chips: 14 | | | Re: 1000 chip set denominations oh i know you didn't mean anything by it dude, i was just getting a little worried that the numbers of each were actually not very good for what i needed. but yeah, i googled standard chip denominations and saw that what i wanted didn't follow the casino standard, but i didn't mind. i went and ordered them the way i wanted anyway. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
