Re: 1000 chip set denominations

I too did the same thing when I purchased my Nexgens. There were certain colors that I did not like so since it was my my own custom set I chose them my way.

Re: 1000 chip set denominations

i am leaning toward burnvalley's suggestion right now. i like it because it gives everybody 48 chips and i think these people will like to see more in front of them. so now that i know what a ring game is, haha, thats what i wanna do. people can rebuy as often as they'd like. and i might do pot-limit instead of no-limit.

is that cool?

Re: 1000 chip set denominations

That sounds like a good setup. Personally, I"m liking ring games more lately. We've been playing for a couple of hours before my tournies. Tournies are fun, but I hate the whole aspect of busting out and being done. Especially when you want a friendly game. And even more especially when I bust out early and have a dozen people still squatting in my house!

Pot limit may be the way to go although constantly counting and recounting the pot for bets can be a pain. It will help put a little bit of a brake on things if that's what you're worried about. With my group, nickel-dime blinds would still see pre-flop raises to $2-3 just because I've got a couple of maniacs. Your group may be fine though and play those stakes seriously instead of as a semi-play money game.

Thumbs up Re: 1000 chip set denominations

dstungah you didn't like my suggestion? Just joking.

To add to other's comments, they are your chips you do what you want with them. I think you did well with the number of chips 400, 300, 200, 100. 4 colors and the count works out nicely as you can see. The colors on the other hand, well I echo Spaceman's points on the "standards"

Just to give you another refference, My bi-weekly game is PL. When i first started the games years ago I started out playing limit because I didn't want people (or newbies) to lose their ass playing NL. It has graduated to PL in the first year and half of playing once people got use to playing and moe money was brought in. I think PL gives you the best of both worlds. The limitations of limit and a little more power like NL.

You say it's fun for now but when money is being risked, arguements and disputes may happen even at a friendly game. So, I STRONGLY suggest you write up some house rules. IE. Check raises allowed, Dead button rule vs moving button, what do on dealer errors, etc. etc.

Good luck with your games guy!

I play .05/.10 no limit cash game every week with my buddies.
I've found that putting too many .05 into play can really slow down the game if people keep recounting the .05 stacks when someone goes all-in.

So we start with:
10 - .05 chips
20 - .10 chips
10 - .25 chips
--------------------
40 chips to starts. Easy to verify the stack heights too.

When someone re-buys, just give them more .10, .25, or 1.00 chips.
Do not put anymore .05 chips into play after the initial buy-in per person.

Ten .05 chips per person is more than enough. Just let them buy five .05 chips for one quarter from each other if someone is low.

Sometimes, I drop it down to five .05 chips per person to start, and give them 1 additional .25 chip instead.
This works well for us.

Re: 1000 chip set denominations

Hi,

I think burnvalley got it almost right here.

I play in a low stakes (for fun) cash game with a few friends using a similar setup
We play blinds of 5p/10p (in the UK) but it fits well here.

Red - 5c
Blue- 10c
Yellow - 20c
White - 50c

Issue to value of $5

10 x Red small blind
25 x Blue big blind
10 x Yellow minimum raise

For rebuys I will issue blue & yellows (and whites when I run out of the others)

The 20c fits in well with this type of game just like the Vineyard chips have $1, $2 and $3 variants.

Just my opinion of course... hope the game goes well

Re: 1000 chip set denominations

actually bbb_forever, i noticed the same thing that night (which went really well, thanks all of you!) we'll not that the counting was too much work, but the ACTION was rather low with the 5 cent chips. next time, i may only give each player ten 5c chips like you suggested, to encourage more action.
