Re: First 300 chip set buy.. Help Required

Here's a comparison of the various suggestions so far:

The last two columns (CaptLego) are a couple of additional options. The first is for a T1000 game:

This one starts each player with 34 chips. This provides for coloring up the reds, but I wouldn't bother with coloring up the $25 chips, since you'd still have less than 200 chips on the table heads-up. The 4 $500 chips allow for 2 rebuys.

The final column is for the octagons and plaques. Since you don't have enough to use these in starting stacks (assuming 8 players), I just set the level at T5000 so you'd be able to use them as rebuys.

This starts each player with 31 chips ($25 is the smallest denom). You'd have enough chips to colorup the $25 chips, but again I wouldn't bother with coloring up the $100's. As shown, it only uses the plaques for 5 rebuys. With the octagons you could support another rebuy. Since the total # of chips required is only 272 (not counting the plaques), you could buy some additional chips -- maybe some spares, or some more $500 chips is you want to go rebuy-crazy.

Re: First 300 chip set buy.. Help Required

Wow.. Thanks for that breakdown..

Hmm so 23 others I can add.. maybe a mix of 500/1000 chips with a few extra 100's for good measure ? And I guess for the Blinds I would start something like 25/25, 25/50, 50/100 etc etc

Cheers

Matt

Several ways to make it work but think back to the real reason you made the post in the first place. Also, having more lower denoms in your set will help make your set more useful when you attempt to use it for a cash game as you mentioned you might do.
I got a 300 chip Paulson set awhile back, and use it for both tourneys and cash games. Because we normally play either .25/.50 NL cash games, used all the low denoms. Usually have a T50 tourney, with starting stacks of 12x.25, 12x$1, 7x$5. The set I got was 100 x $.25, 100 x $1, 80 x $5, and 20 x $25. I've added some additional chips since then but was able to run decent tournaments with just that basic set-up. And again, it was perfect for use as a cash set as well (well, perhaps I should say was a good foundation for a cash set -- i liked it more as I added more of the lowest denoms especially).

And if anyone complains about the size of the stacks in the tourney, I always point out to them that it is still more than their buy-in (we usually play for a $20 buy-in).
