Chips: 8 | | | First Chipset purchase I am going to try to get some chips for christmas this year and have decided to get the Nexgen Lucky Bee's. I can afford a set of 1000 chips and am wondering about making the breakdown flexible enough to have some tourneys and also handle dealers choice cash games. Heres what I am thinking.
White- 300
Red- 300
Green- 200
Black- 100
Purple- 100
What do you guys think? Also, are the black and purple chips too close in color as to get confused easily?
All input is appreciated and thanks for a great resource!

50 purple is quite a few, actually.

Are these going to be worth the same in the cash game as well as the tourney (meaning Red T5 as well as $5)?
Sorry for the 20 questions, but it will hopefully give you something to think about.

Chips: 1,071 | | | Re: First Chipset purchase THe answers to your questions are it depends - like what are your starting chips; number of players you normally host; and stakes in the cash game etc. If you run your tourneys and cash games like I do than - no - I would buy them completely different.
I run T2000 to T10,000 tournaments and only use $25 chips and higher for tournaments, I give out 8 x $25, 8 x$100 and 2 to 8 x 500 and 5 x $1000 if needed - some people like to give out a lot more than that so that is personal preference. If I only ran T2000 tournaments I could get away with 18 chips per player with 2 extra 100 per player for coloring up for a total of 20 per player. My current set of Nexgen tournament chips is 1300+ and will accomodate 40 players from a T2000 up to a T10000. I have hosted as many as 39.
I give out a lot of chips in my cash games, and they range from a $20 buy-in to $200 max buy-in so I need 25¢ chips (about 200), $1 chips (I have more than I need but 200 will work for one table but 400 is better), $5 chips (I have too many of these for my current cash games over 400 but the number you need depends upon your stakes), and I have some $25 chips as well, but have not needed those for a while. |

Chips: 8 | | | Re: First Chipset purchase Hey guys, thanks for the ideas and questions. I think I am going to change up my breakdown a little. I think I am going to get...
White- 200
Red- 300
Green- 300
Black-150
Purple- 50
I guess what I was really asking was, is this kind of breakdown good enough to do a little bit of everything? I really dont host anything on a regular basis and just want a set that is "generaly" good for anything. I think I should be able to do a T2000 with about ten people easily. I want to get into hosting some good poker nights but I have to start somewhere. Also, since I am not geting denoms. on the chips, doesnt it make the set really versital?
Thanks again for any more input,

Chips: 29,466 | | | Re: First Chipset purchase With 1000 non-denom chips, you can cover a lot of everything.
Since these are non-denoms, I think your set would be even more versatile if you only went with 4 colors. You just don't need more than 4 colors for any particular game, and since you're getting non-denoms, whatever colors you have can be used in any game.
So if you got more chips in fewer colors, you'd be setup to handle more players.
For tournies, I'd suggest going with 4 colors in a breakdown like 300/350/300/50 or 300/300/300/100
The former is better for maximum number of players, the latter breakdown (with 100 of the high-denom chips) is better for slightly fewer players but more rebuys.
For limit games, you'd probably want to skew the breakdown a bit more --- maybe get 400 or 500 of one color.

Then if you need 600 $1 chips to play 20 handed 1/2 limit, just lump two of the colours together and use them as the same value.
Chas is suggesting 200/300/300/150/50 which will work just fine I think.
I think that 4 colours is enough for most situations, and you might find that all 5 colours are never on the table at the same time, but what the hell.
My own non-denom 1200 chip breakdown is 400 red, 400 green, 200 black, 100 purple and 100 orange.
I think i have too many colours and that I should have got 100 more black instead of the orange.
But the orange chips are pretty! | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
