Chip Breakdown Calculator ** Version 0.6 (Web Based!) now available **

[EDIT: UPDATE: Version 0.6 is now available. This version is web-based, so you don't need to download anything to run it!]

Try this out:
Breakdown Calculator

See post #98 in this thread for more info on this version.

------------------------------------- old stuff follows --------------------------------

I'm working on a calculator to help with pokerchip chipset breakdowns and starting stacks.

You can download this (breakdown3.exe) from http://www.captlego.com/Download.html (look for it at the bottom of the page) Download this file, unzip it, and run the breakdown3.exe program

EDIT: Note --- you will need to install the Matlab runtime libraries. A self-extracting archive of those libraries is also availabe on my download page.
After extracting those libraries, you will need to either:
A) add the location of the libraries ( */bin/win32) to your DOS path, or
B) extract the calculator's files (from breakdown3.zip) into that same */bin/win32 folder where the runtime libraries are and run the breakdown.exe from there.

Basic Operation:
1. Specify the Buyin (T$) at the top
2. Hit the "Auto for Game" button. The program will suggest the starting stacks
3. Specify the # of players, and the # of rebuys
4. Hit the "Auto to Buy" button. The program will calculate how many chips you need for each denom.

You can save/load a chipset and game breakdown in the File menu.
The Options menu gives you control over two parameters:
a) how many chips to use for the starting stacks per player
b) the ratio of the buyin to the starting Small Blind

You can manually override the number of chips, chip colors, and denominations values, chips for rebuys, etc.

I'm still working on the formulas.

I'm planning to add colorup calculations.

A major enhancement would be to add a mechanism to allow for a variety of games (one of the hardest things about deciding on a breakdown to purchase is to have flexibility for a wide variety of games).

Anyhow, please give it a try. I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions you might have.

Re: Chip Breakdown Calculator

Capt, I tried running it, but got a pop up error message. The text of the message follows. My only choice is to click OK.---------------------------

breakdown2.exe - Unable To Locate Component

---------------------------

This application has failed to start because libmmfile.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

---------------------------

OK

---------------------------

My OS is Windows XP Pro SP2.

Re: Chip Breakdown Calculator

austin,
I'll look into it. I'll either make that .dll available, or see if I can re-compile so you don't need it....

Re: Chip Breakdown Calculator

Yea I know that you know this already......but I got the same message!

I wish I had 1/10 the talent you have Capt!! Truly amazing stuff you have here!!

Good luck pulling all the loose strings together!

Here is just a quick thought before I submit this message....would it be possible to look at several of these at the same time? So as to compare one breakdown with another?? Or maybe a way to export/print them??

Just a thought!

Thanks again!!

Re: Chip Breakdown Calculator

OK guys, thanks for checking this out.
I think I've got the stuff to get you going. For now, this is what you need to do:

on www.captlego.com/Download.html
1. Download the Matlab runtime libraries. This is a self-extracting archive. Extract the files to some convient <folder>. Then, you'll need to add the <folder>/bin/win32 directory to your DOS path. (You only need to do this once.)
2. Download the latest Chip Breakdown Calculator. This is now a .zip file. Unzip it, and run the breakdown3.exe program.

I've updated the program a bit. It now looks like this:

I've added colorup calculations, and rearranged it a bit. The chip totals will now be calculated as part of the automatic calculation.
If you subsequently manually override any of the chips/person or rebuy amounts, you can just update the colorup and chip totals by hitting the button at the top of those columns.

I've only begun to test this. In some cases, it seems to give reasonable answers. In some other cases, it has obvious bugs (I found one game where it suggested "-1" for one of the starting chips per player).
So I've obviously got some work yet to do on this.
Your feedback, ideas, and suggestions will be most appreciated.

EDIT: Version updated to 0.3.1 (I fixed the case that was giving a "-1" suggestion for starting chips)

Re: Chip Breakdown Calculator

Pretty crazy. I can't believe I got it working.

Probably the first time I've had to edit my path statement for something on chiptalk.

If I only have 4 colors, how do I get rid of the other 3 colors?
